I am of the second school of thought — mostly.
Used to ride “what ever in the bin” for years, but now I prefer to buy new. But never the latest, always parts who proved they last…
And I am definitely of the latter. Brifters, carbon fiber? Bah!
I have fallen into both categories at one time or another. Currently well planted in the latter.
i more enjoy cobbling. It’s not just a matter of budgeting.
Of course! And the best part is when some know-it-all says that “you can’t do something” — such as getting clean shifting using Shimano derailleurs with SunTour bar-end shifters — and you show them your bike where prove that not only *CAN* you do that, but you’ve been doing it for years now.
I’m 50/50, plus I also regularly sweep ebay and some bike-a-holics discussion boards for used parts.
70/30 newer stuff mostly / however ome old school stuff is fun too
Nothing newer than ’96 – except tires and brake pads
Yep, I point to stuff like this as proof positive I made the right decision moving away from America. Those people scare me – and there are a lot of them. That video is America's future! (Seriously – rent and watch &qito;Iduocracy&quto;!!)
My bikes were built when I was a student,
The road racing bike was inherited as a rusty heap and had to be re-built, the mountain bike started out as a specialized hardrock that got it’s forks swapped, then it’s wheels, then it’s bars, then it’s frame and made singlespeed, then it’s brakes, then gears re-fitted (new parts)
10 years on from buying the hardrock, I think there is only the saddle from the Hardrock!
My partner’s bike was built from what was in the back cupboard of the back room of three different bike shops
Yeah, a party they want you to pay big bucks to attend. Come meet your leader at Stornoway! Oh, but don't you dare bring a guest. Yeah? Buh-bye, Laurier Club.
Wonderful story, reckoned we could combine a handful of unrelated data, nevertheless truly worth taking a search, whoa did 1 understand about Mid East has got much more problerms at the same time
