I ADORE bike paths – they’re typically prettier, quieter and more fun to ride on. I also am unafraid to use the road when it’s the most direct route to my desitination.
I agree with Yehuda, and used to be militant about taking the road. But it’s not a cause worth dying for. I’d rather get home safely with wounded pride.
Talking about equal rights on the road is one thing – the other is, that traffic IS dangerous, and when you get hit on a bike (no matter if negligent or by a bully) it’s worse than getting hit in a car.
I moved from TN to MI in mid January. Living in the Detroit metro area and driving on Detroit metro roads has removed any desire I have to ride outside anymore.
I ride on MAJOR Highways. But all have paved shoulders. Plus I ride on county paved roads Motorists pass as if I’m a motor vehicle. On the path people tend to zone out. Call “On your left” They freak out So I seldom ride there
Get a good bell. I find that yelling, “ On your left!” rarely works. It either goes unheard (earbuds) or causes people to mistakenly move to the left. Bells make people look and are received better than shouting something.
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, not a believer in bike paths. I refuse to be ghettoed.

They are changing gears an once! I love how those details add authenticity.
Me too! I particularly like that you can see the Brifter shift and the bar-end shift. (Can’t remember, is Yehuda indexed or friction?)

You can scream and holler about “rights” all you like – that’s fine – but just remember one thing: “Physics wins, EVERY time!”.
Yep, you can only fit so many cars on each length of road, and far fewer when it’s under water.
Who cares, lets all drive tanks!
Life or death…. as long as I can ride my bike safely I don’t care.
Get plowed by a car vs plowing the nice middle aged couple holding hands across the full fucking width of the path?
