Yep, they don’t work. Plus there’s no glue to sniff 🙂

Patching tubes is one of the few things that hasn’t changed. A time-honored tradition. Glueless patches try to shortcut the process, anger the cycling gods, and therefore are cursed for all eternity. IMHO.

They only work in low, low humidity. Not likely under most road conditions.

The one thing that Yehuda won’t “make do and mend” https://yehudamoon.com/comic/2016-09-16/

I dunno, every time i think of patching i refer to this one….which seems contradictory…unless Yehuda has changed practices over the years.

Upon rereading it again i now get the impression that the tube is Joe’s. I’ve always thought it was Yehuda’s. So no contradiction there then i guess.

My Pashley Roadster Sovereign came with Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres as factory standard equipment. No more punctures!

    Hey Kevin,

Yep, Marathon Plus tires are the ticket. Once did a 200km brevet where every other rider was plagued with goat-head thorns. I must have pulled out a dozen at the end.

Nowadays I’m riding with Vittoria slicks on the fast bike, but still using Marathons on the Brompton.

So that’s why they actually work up here in the rocky mountains… I never got the hate against the stickers.

We consider them “get you home” patches, not long-term solutions. I’m guessing Yehuda carries spares that are likely already patched. And he patches them with old cut-up tubes and contact cement. It works!
