I hear coyotes yip on the commute home late at night sometimes. I don’t know about petting one, but they aren’t likely to harm

The last thing one wants to do is getting a coyote used to being around humans. They’re already re-inhabiting urban centres. They can pose a danger to pet dogs and human children. A neighbour of mine recently lost her dog to a coyote attack.

We’ve got coyotes all over in Tucson. They can be dangerous to pets, but I empathize with them on a certain level, as they may have a harder time navigating cars and traffic than those of us on bicycles do!

In 1997 I did a pre-dawn ride in Borrego Springs, CA and ran into a pack of about 10 coyotes. We didn’t bother each other.

Coyotes broke into my neighbor’s back yard, played with the dog toys and copulated with her dog. The nerve!

Coyotes will eat your ass if they get a chance. Everything is fair game for them. Nature’s opportunists.
