Have put a Christmas light chain on my bike. Pedestrians like it “how nice!” but for Car driver it seems to be the perfect cloaking device, never hat so many near hits like the last 5 Days ;-/
That’s the problem with any lights or decoration too bright or too unusual (interesting). the drivers keep watching you.. unfortunately, most drivers subconsciously steer to the direction they are looking. ๐ (that is, btw, the reason why it is recommended to watch the path you want to go around an obstacle (like a hole in the road), not directly the obstacles you want to miss. especially on a motorcycle, or even a bicycle, though it is usually slower).
A Christmas-light chain?ย ย I would definitely want to see pictures of that; not to mention a “how I did it” article in terms of keeping it lit while in use.
It is battery powered, out of the box and wrapped around the frame, thats all “how I did it”
I have no web space, let alone time to register or upload, but give me your e-mail (or ask rick to do ist, so not anybody gets it) and I send a picture ๐
Bicycle Bill was “thinking” you were referring to a drive chain for the bike made of lights, or that is what you sounded like. Around most parts it’s referred to as a string of lights, not a chain.
That said, I’ve been known to decorate my bike for night riding with a string of christmas lights too.
Okay, thank you. I was doing a rough translation, these where called in German: ” Lichterkette” what translates to light chain.
Sorry again for my limited English…
Oclv โ that’s exactly the picture I had in mind when I read his first post; using a string of lights as a drive chain or somehow laced into the existing chain (which one *MIGHT* be able to do with a single-speed or internal-hub bicycle using a Gates drive-belt).ย ย Then when I came back here and found his response I also saw that you had weighed in on the matter with the clarification.
Thanks.
Hollow Chain bolts, filled with a LED, a capacitor and an inductor together with a magnet at the frame should do the job ๐
Just to be sure: I claim licence fees!
