An earlier strip said that “the police identified the owner of the car … but they’re not saying”.  A couple of days later, we learned that the police had arrested Councilman Turner and his wife, and that the car was registered in the wife’s name.

Now it appears that they were able to post bond — not an unusual situation; given his status in the community he might even have been released on his own recognizance — and have split town or at least gone incommunicado … which again would not be out of the ordinary; if this were me I’d get myself as far away from the public eye (and the prying press) as possible too, at least until the court date came up.

Let’s wait and give them the benefit of the doubt.

Guilty, yes. Conscience? I think they simply have an aversion to prison. But they never should have run: everyone knows there’s no penalty for killing cyclists–it was an “accident” after all (they always are). You only get punished when you evade arrest or become an accessory after the fact (by helping the accused run). This is the best thing for Fred: now they’ll both actually face some penalties.

    Really? How does Fred benefit?

I imagine that because he gets closure, Fred can pass on and stop haunting the shop?
