Tried that. Rode my bike for some years allways with a fluorescent yellow jacket. It simply made no difference. The proplem is: They do not look in your direction. Even a yellow flashlight on the head would not help.
Ride like a ninja. Don’t expect anyone to see you, use empty space. No problem. If anyone DOES see you, you will know and you can use it then, as a bonus. // On the other hand, for “conventional” riding, fluorescent vest works for me.
After riding my Yellow Mango Velomobile since October 2015, my experience is that most, if not all, drivers SEE me. They all have the view that I am going to slow them down and drive as quick as possible to get in front of me in case I slow them down at the traffic lights.
When they are stopped in the queue and I go by and wait at the front for the lights to change then pull off quickly, they eventually pass me with a wider gap and more car than before as if they have realised their error. I was only timing the lights so that I didn’t need to stop…
Only one driver (of a lorry) commented that he ‘found me difficult to see’. On that same ride, another motorist had commented how visible I was – at the time the lorry past me.
SMIDSY has been claimed so many lives. Sad commentary on how we live these days.
Fun… I changed what I was going to say mid sentence, and now can’t correct it…

A huge flashing LED light does the trick.
But after your commute your eyes are a bit….off!

Indeed. I consider all people in traffic to be blind idiots (including myself).

Car than before – I really must proof-read before hitting ‘post’ 🙂
I just did it again even – the short-term memory loss is getting worse 🙂
‘Care than before’…
