I have this vision of outrunning six feline racers on my bicycle. I have heard it said that the fastest land animal is the Cheetah. I would hate to have six of them hunting me down.
I recently stumbled upon the “Category 6” term and I feel it perfectly described myself (though it’s often used in a derogatory way). I don’t have much time to ride on the week besides my commute so I kick it hard, it’s a 15km trip for me. If you’re riding only a few kms each way of course you can take it easy. I’d never get to work if I did lol.
I pass people sometimes. I’m not making an effort to do so, I’m just rolling at my speed, which isn’t all that fast, typically under 15 MPH. If someone’s going 8, I’m going to pass them.
Estivalia and Andy S I agree with you both. My commute ride is about 26 miles round trip. On the return route I often do interval training. If a friend of mine commutes back with yeah we challenge ourselves and each other. If that make me a cat 6 racer so be it. Funny thing is I get passed too and do not think nothing more then the other rider is training hard and hope to build up to their level.
I like pushing myself on a long commute, or any ride actually. I pass people who are slower the same as I pass by any other obstacle. I’m just doing my thing and don’t want to get involved in any drama. On the other hand, if I get passed by a stronger rider I really enjoy seeing if I can hang on behind them – so much easier to let a stronger rider set the pace.
Happy Birthday sir ! Let me offer an inspiration for you … CycloVets Team Spokesmen.

The first part of the “Race Across AMerica” (RAMM) Is known as “Race Across the West” (RAW). The RAW is from Oceanside CA to Durango CO, 1013 (?) miles. They finished in ~ 60 hours. Jacobo, Bob, Jim and Butch. ALL gentlemen, and ALL good athletes. ALL (not) young ! Butch replaced Chuck in the last hours of the training, and was a wonderful addition to the team. What an adventure ! Inspirations come in surprising arrays.
“Cat 6”?

Remember this: Cheetahs never prosper.

Thanks for the term “Cat 6 racer” It fits so perfectly. Until todays strip I had not heard it used.
“Cat 6” must be “p.c.” for “StravTard”.

I’m so old (turned 60 today) that I remember when there was only 4 categories in the USCF.
Happy Birthday!

Even snails pass me nowadays. But it’s a ride not a race, so who cares?
