It cannot be that hard to find the World Championships or some Belgium cyclocross πŸ™‚ but they’re just excuses from actually getting out.

It is if you live in the US.

Why are they walking the bicycles instead of riding them?

Hello, Americans! One thing that struck me this morning – the language Yehuda uses. If some of European English language students would produce such statements, it would probably seem “not the right English” to me. Well, American English is different to the British ideal still prevailing in Europe, no doubt. As a side note… this evening, I have watched Clibt Eastwood’s “Gran Torino” movie. Very strong experience – my recommendations. Maybe off-topic… donΒ΄t care at this moment. πŸ™‚ Well… whatever you may have thougt about anything… / The good stay good and good riddance to the bad guys… no matter what race or nationality they are, if they drive a car or ride a bicycle or what… the lines are drawn along slightly different lines… that’s the least I can say! πŸ™‚

Boris, it is the same with every language: The language you learn in school is always different from the language actually spoken in the street. Languages change an no book or teacher can keep pace…
(So, that’s it for my daily American English lesson πŸ˜‰

Several people have said the British and US are 2countries seperated by a common language. It is funny but the worlds languages all get twisted when they hit the North American shores. Almost a hundred years ago (actually only about 90) my uncle was attending high school and took what he thought was his family’snative language of German but after 2 weeks the teacher sent a note home telling my grandparents to stop talking to my uncle in their ‘native’ language because the teacher was trying to teach him German. It seemed the german they spoke was tainted by the fact that they had left Russia where the german ethnic town they were from had adapted to try to fit in a bit better. Oh this happened in Chicago where at that time most neighborhoods still had stores and services done in the ethnic language of the most recent wave of immigrants to settle, and you could drink Czech (long before there was such a country), German, Polish or Flemish beer all on an afternoon stroll by just wandering from neighborhood to neighborhood…..if you didn’t get ruffed up by the llocal ethnic ruffians, since it was pretty segregated in that era.
