Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.
The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.

What’s wrong Rick?

I only get an empty white window in Safari – in Firefox everything’s OK
(all time long, yehudamoon.com did work fine in Safari).
Those who use Safari get what they ask for…
The world’s BUGGIEST web browswer.
Buggiest? There’s some stiff competition out there, especially considing HTML5.
I’m using safari and it is working fine for me
Every cracked iPhone tells a story…
Mine has lived in one of these – an OtterBox Defender – since it was new:
http://www.otterbox.com/iPhone-4-/-4S-Defender-Series-Case/APL2-I4SUN,default,pd.html?dwvar_APL2-I4SUN_color=E5&start=6&cgid=apple-iphone-4-cases
…and survived crashes, splashes, drops, bumps, knocks and a lot of abuse. The phone inside is still immaculate. Friends are amazed when, to demonstrate its effectiveness, I open my hand and let the phone drop to the floor. It’s still going strong.
That does look like a battered iPhone, but in four-plus years of Yehuda strips I don’t recall ever seeing a reference to him carrying a cellphone, not even when he had his run-in with “Sidewalk”. Not to mention that I can’t imagine a retrogrouch like Yehuda being a ‘sheeple’, or even embracing smart-phone technology in the first place.
And Pierre, if your phone needs that much protection maybe you should look into the Casio GZ-One line of devices, which are made to US MIL-STD-810F specs for ability to withstand low pressure, extremes of heat and cold, solar radiation, humidity (included salt water fog), sand, dust, vibration and shock.
I did at first think “what – Yehuda has a mobile phone?”
I had a look at other phones – some of them are near-indestructible. But nothing built to be tough came close to the functionality of an iPhone. And that Defender case is fairly sturdy, but doesn’t impede any of the phone’s functions at all. Which makes it ideal, for me.
I was going to suggest that Yehuda needs an otterbox! I have the otterbox commuter model in pink and it’s proof against drops from bikes and such. I don’t think an iphone is necessarily a sheeple tool anymore because it simply is the easier and more accessible tool for a pocket computer. I started years ago with a franklin Ebook, worked through a casio, a couple HP products, a buggy windows mobile smartphone, and finally followed my husband into the iphone world. I had dismissed the iphone because of it’s popularity but when hubby chose it, I just went along to be a good spouse. I never regretted it.
It’s just that iPhone only makes one model at a time, whereas Android phones come in several different models and styles.
• You want a physical keyboard? Not with an iPhone.
• Need to use it outside the USA? Only since Apple released the 4S last year; none of the previous models were globally compatible.
• Need to swap out the battery or increase the on-board memory? Can’t do it without completely replacing the phone.
• Want to use the 4GLTE network? Rumors are the next iPhone will work on 4G, but only Apple knows for sure right now and they’re not saying.
• Want to get apps from somewhere other than the Apple iTunes store? Ain’t gonna happen.
• You say iPhone is simple and easy to use? Probably, but so is Android. Why would Apple be trying to sue Google for “copying” the iPhone if they weren’t similar in use and performance?
• Don’t want to pay $200.00 for a phone? That’s the subsidized cost for an iPhone, take it or leave it. OTOH, you can get an Android phone thru most any carrier right now for less than 50 bucks.
As I said, Apple users are sheeple….or brainwashed members of some sort of cult worshipping the late Steve Jobs.
Cracked screens? Keep an eye on BikePortland today…

500 pounds of bananas.
Hey, how did Yehuda get his hands on my iPhone? LOL :~)

I thinking he went with a smart phone after Thistle developed the ‘find the bike’ app.
I never thought Yehuda would be the sort of mindless zombie who would buy an iPhone… I see him more as one to use one of those Motorola briefcase cell phones from the early days, if anything.
or 2 tin cans and a piece of string???
Yehuda probably found the phone dumpster diving.
Maybe he TROLLed for it?
We need to remember that Yehuda once was a ‘yuppie’ and probably had all the gadgets that go with the lifestyle until he had a personal ‘Damascus’ and changed his lifestyle. At least that is how I remember it.
Of course, my memory is untrustworthy so if anybody can correct me I will be glad to read about it…
I seem to recall a few strips. Where he had a phone. I think one was a flip phone.
Speaking of hauling stuff on your bike, check out Google’s tricycle. Currently being used to take Street View images of some remote communities in Canada’s North. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/story/2012/08/22/north-google-street-view.html
There was a strip in Bicycle Times a year or two ago where Yehuda had a mechanical and used his cell phone to call Joe for a ride.
It makes sence for Yehuda to have a cell phone, seeing asd you has no house (unless he is still shacking up with whats-her-name). Heck, I do own a home and we ditched our land line and just have a cells.
I think I must be the last “serious” cyclist on Earth (or at least in TX) who doesn’t have a real cell phone. What I do have is a “911 phone” a previously activated phone that will only call 911 (if I remember to keep it charged). The only time I used it was when the SUV turned turtle in front of me while I was walking to the train from the bike shop and ripped the arm off the driver.
Wow – someone in a “I drive an SUV because it SAAAAAAFE” found out that physics wins EVERY TIME!
I have a smart car. I won’t try to tow it, but you can come try if you like!
Why is it that so many people have iPhones with cracked screens? Is it that they love their iPhone so much they don’t care that the screen is broken? or they use their phone so much it is more prone to breaks? or is it that they have no idea that you can replace the screen on your phone for like 25 dollars http://www.ifixit.com/.
Smart phones, smart cars, smart asses; where will it end? Its Friday and the weather’s good. Gonna do the smart thing. Ride along the Swan River anyone?
