Case in point, this weekend, when I finally got around to installing my new brake pads. Also took the opportunity to wipe the bike down clean, clean and lube the chain, and Proofide my Brooks B17. Bike was looking cleaner and riding better than it had for MONTHS. Next day, commute home from work, POP, broke a spoke on the rear wheel. Replaced and trued it up at home, but this is not the first time that meaningful maintenance one day is followed in quick order by some other unrelated issue. It's as if it likes the attention and is begging for more... I sometimes find just the opposite, especially when it comes to maintenance.
