Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.
The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.

Clickety Click or Whirrr?
Freakin’ lycra brigade- Always spoiling the ambience with Dura Ace/Record/Rival noise pollution.
Maybe just a little envious;)
Don’t worry. They’ll soon disappear when the Tour is over..
We never go away! It’s our purpose in life to convince non-riders that you can’t ride a bicycle without carbon fiber, expensive and rediculous looking clothing, and an overwhelming desire to go on and on about the latest anthill you had to climb.
A DA hub is almost silent if in good nick.
while there is little that is louder than a Chris King Freehub a White Industries Eno Freewheel comes close….I just acquired one in a trade

I’ve got a White Ind. trials freewheel on my SSCX bike. It sounds like a swarm of angry hornets.
Now I can even piss off the racers who aren’t close enough to me to ‘appreciate’ the width of my Salsa Woodchipper handlebars. Muahahahaha!
I’mlooking forward to scaring the kids at the BMX track
Hope or DT Swiss Hügi?
Joe like to steal the thunder
Wouldn’t know myself. Still riding on regular “Sanshin” hubs with a Maeda/SunTour “Perfect” freewheel.
I mean, if it ain’t broke, why fix it?
I’m using a SunTour Pro Compe myself, but otherwise, same here!
You say Cicado, I say Cicatto…
Round here, all you can hear is “Cicadis rain”
I’m imagining a rewrite of “Mandolin Rain”…
My (soon antique) R600 (pre-Ultrega) are practically silent in freewheeling mode. I like it that way.
I would point out that fixed is quieter still. ;-)
I get really irritated by the moaning of the new fixie riders bleeding in the middle of and blocking the bike path.
They’re all pretty darn silent if you keep pedaling
I thought coasting was forbidden but, then, what do I know. I’m just another gray anonymous critter whose avatar no longer works and will not reload.
Didn’t Joe disparage noisy freehubs a few months ago? His attitude was bicyclists who use them were transmitting to all around how expensive their wheelset is…
One of these days, please draw something showing a lovely stylish woman on a cruiser casually zipping past a lycra boy? It happens more often than you realize! I even had one lycra clad rider shout “sure, make it look easy!”
Normaly it is the racres that pass me all the time on my local trail (make me want to get a better bike), but it is still fun blowing by the others while pulling my kid in his trailer. The other little kids get a kick out of the trailer.
Although I’m far from a lovely lady, my morning commute shares a road with a local epic road ride. I love passing the local racer Johnie’s after they’re well bonked out from the big ride while I stroll to work on my commuter cruiser in Carhart pants and a button up long sleeve.
Tortoise and Hare
YOU are my HERO. I love passing the roadracers with flats on my 27 year old Peugeot “truck”.
I built a ‘bent with a full Campy Centaur gruppo many years ago (2004) and everybody knew when I quit pedaling (which was quite often on group rides as the bike was geared way too short and could reach a speed faster than I could pedal on a 1% downhill. The bike was way aero, way heavy, and fairly nice looking as it won its class at a local car show (I still have my ISCA card). Anyway, that Centaur hub was LOUD.
WTF is a bicycle doing at a car show?
If Rick is reading this, is there any way I can change my username? I’d like it to match my Twitter name. Cheers!
Two ways?
1. Use the ‘Kickstand Club’ link at the top. you can change email etc…
2. Use the ‘Write Us’ below…
Changing name or avitar seems easy on my end. In the ‘Add a Comment’ or ‘Reply’ box, just click on your avitar icon and pick one from your computer, or sign in from Google or Yahoo or whatever. You can change your name anytime, too.
I dunno, maybe it has to do with your browser or version of javascript, Java, or something like that? It seems to work the same way on several browsers on my Mac (Lion). I’d love to see your Avitars back again : )
See?

The loudest noise my freewheel currently makes is the occasional squeaking of a rubber guard (“plug” or whatever – not sure how to call it properly) placed on the axle right next to the hub (keeping water/mud off). I haven’t yet figured out how to stop it from squeaking (except perhaps for replacing it with a new one), but I don’t really mind. Sounds funny at times, but there’s no functional problem, so…
Yesterday’s was a very good ride! Among other things… I reached the same mileage count as was my last year’s total.
Oh yes, it does translate to: “this year’s a good year – I get to ride my bike(s) much more than in the last year.”

Happy summer to you all!
You do know what oil is for?
I do, thank you. In short: not good for this application.
Nevermin.
I am sorry to hear that. Shame.
