I have found our 10 speed components wear out in half the time of the 9 speed ones. I can imagine 11 speed will be even worse, but that's going to be a long time away, if ever.

I do wonder how one would fall over while riding a trike ;)
// ---
It's a shame that those things tend to be a little too expensive.

when the speed gets very low on your bike you are able to spin so fast that the momentum of your triple front keeps you upright anyway

Of course more is better, you didn't know that? ;-)
http://fallbrooktechnologies.com/08_bicycle_home.asp
I have one on my Trandem and am completely sold on it.
Coupled to a triple front changer (36/46/56t) I have 3 infinite ranges of gearing.
On a trike it is the ultimate as I can spin at my preferred rpm all day without fear of falling over when speed goes too low!
On a Bike it may be a little less useful, but as I often find myself 'between gears' and having to either speed up or slow down to get the right speed/cadence/ratio setup, I am thinking about the NuVinci on the bike...

More is always better... that's how we keep score, right?
1st it was steel, then chrome moly, next aluminum, & ti, now carbon... Always newer, lighter, faster, but never cheaper...
