Nope…  But the day’s still young (younger than me…) (When I was born, the number 1 song was by The Beatles!)

Child.  On my birthdate, I think the #1 song was by Rosemary Clooney, backed by a big band.

Yeah, Don’t Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes by Perry Como was No. 1 on my birthday.

Now, get off my lawn you young whippersnapper.

“Sincerely” by the McGuire Sisters was no. 1 when I was born according to http://www.bobborst.com/popculture/number-one-songs-by-year/?y=1955 (you can find anything on line these days!).

Rode my 1984 Trek 520 to work today, equipped with 1989 Campy Euclid Mt. bike parts and a vintage regina freewheel, wobbler rims, brooks sprung saddle and carridice saddle bag. The only “new” parts on the bike are pedals and Burley’s “Moose Rack” for the trailer bike, the Trek is the official burley mobile.   Happy birthday and thanks for giving me a chance to brag about my ride

I had a 1987 Trek 520, I loved that bike… Right up until I plowed into a curb and bent the downtube. :(  I’ve wanted it’s replacement ever since.

got my ’87 520 just ~ 3.5 years ago for $300 from a club member who’d upgraded to a new Novara ~ moved black Nitto Rando bars & stem from a mid-90s Miyata Alumicross and my 70s Brooks Pro onto it, added Honjo fenders, and eventually got a set of winter wheels with Marathon Winters… both sides of the orig Bio-Pace crankset have cracked at the axle, so it was replaced with a 175mm 105 triple a friend found at a swap for $30 including mounted Shimano SPDs… have also added a set of Tubus low-riders so can carry 4 Ortliebs – here it is as acquired, with 10k miles showing on the odo… http://bit.ly/Ms4NVK and some later photos in that same set show it in adjusted forms, but don’t seem to have a current one, will have to remedy that when not riding it, captaining a tandem, etc.

Hi Jerome – Your Blue Trek is a lot like my Violet Pollard except mine has straight bars. It started life as a track frame but has been through various changes since, as a tourer then a commuter, now a shopper. Mainly getting a full rebuild from a worn-out tourer to a state-of-the-art commuter. Fenders and straight bars with Carradice panniers and bag. Not forgetting a computer with cadence.
Fast and good at speed but lousy when ridden slowly and does not like potholes etc so I recently fitted 700c x 36 tyres instead of 700c x 23 which made it handle rough roads a lot better! I wish I could fit 40s but there isn’t enough frame clearance :-(

robmin – if your bike has “wobbler rims”, maybe it’s time to take to the shop and get those wheels trued up.
I think you might have meant “Wolber” – a really good German rim from back in the late 1980s.

The alien is the mascot of Reddit.  Rick and Brian are doing an AMA where they will answer any questions fans may have about the comic or life.

Rick and/or Brian, I know someone is going to post on reddit but can I save the comp and load it up?  Maybe it can make front page and more people will be interested in the comic?  Also what time is the AMA?  And please state the time zone.

    Happy Birthday K’Tesh.

There is a inbedded link on the alien that takes you to Reddit. Not sure what it is though…

And the other beauty of everyone riding again is that the bike shops hire a few extra staff members.

And hoepfully, unlike 1974, when everyone decides that riding is just a fad (again), they don’t all drop it at once leaving suddenly overstocked LBS’s.

Good point. I didn’t know it was bike to work day until I rode past a bunch of yahoos who flagged me down and tried to stuff me with breakfast burittos and samples of this and that and a tote bag to put it in! How am I going to make it the rest of the way? A bike to work day breakfast by and for people who don’t bike to work!

Likewise. That’s why I always refer to it as National Squeeky Chain Day; legions of one-timers who pull their unlubricated steeds out of the garage squeeking, clunking, and clacking down the MUT. Oh, and brand new LED lights on full tilt blinky mode in broad daylight. I always wonder how may epileptic seizures they cause on their one commute on a bike during the year

Ah, yes, in most locales Bike to Work day/week/month is meant to encourage those who are not bike commuters.  Welcoming the newbies with such goodies as breakfast really does work better than treating them with disdain.

Ok. First I understand your comments. Isn’t it like every other attempt to change behavior? Most of the peole with ride just today. But try to look at it another way. 1 out of every X riders who have never ridden to work before will find out that they like it. Some of those will start riding to work and some of those will become regular commuters. Welcome them into the fold and help them along.

I hate bike to work day.   Brings out all the first timers who feel they are exempt from traffic laws, four abreast, weaving up a line of stopped cars, blow the light.   They exemplify the stereotype of commuting cyclists as reckless scofflaws.

New bikes to abound. My girlfriend just got herself a Sirrus, and replaced an old clunker. And suddenly, I have to ride faster.

And being in Denver, our Bike to Work Day isn’t until June. But I am looking forward to breakfast burritos.

Who’s Yehuda Moon?

Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.

The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.
