Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.
The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.

That’s a good way to do business!
That’s a good way to get rid of a woman :-\
Yeah, the smarter answer would be “Hey, I’m off duty right now. Why not bring your bike into the shop tomorrow and we can take a look at it?” Then back to the date.
…and so true. Mention to people that you work with bikes and they’ll start asking your advice on all sorts of things from what’s wrong with their gears to what their next kit upgrade should be. It’s similar to telling people that you’re a doctor, I’m told!
I’m a lab tech in a veterinary diagnostic lab (we do bloodwork, etc for Vet Clinics), I get people asking me all the time to diagnose their animals. Unless I have your dog, in pieces, under a scope, there is not a thing I can do for you. And before you ask, no working in our lab is nothing like the lab on CSI…. :) lol
lol, I know the feeling. I work in molecular diagnostics for a vet diagnostic lab. The ones that annoy me the most are the people who ask you if you can run tests for them for free… Kinda get rid of the “middle man” vet.
Yeah, or if you work with computers… :/ “Oh, do you know what my computer is slow?”
Just tell ‘em to defrag it. Rarely works but they think it’s awesome.
Sounds like brake squeal from pads not toe-ing in?
Brake squeal is a feature! In my experience it is the only sound that works to remove pedestrians from the road when bells and Airzound tend to get ignored.
Properly noisy brakes aren’t usually ineffective at braking, they’re just converting kinetic energy into sound energy. On my commuter, as Thomas says, it’s a ‘feature’ – if you step off the pavement in front of me and I have to brake suddenly, I don’t need to say a word: the angry loud squeal of my brakes will let you know how hard I’ve just had to stop!
Most peds will simply look to see what is causing the noise.
Only the experienced jaywalker knows to leap clear!
It is drivers, when walking, that recognise the sound of brake squeal…
btw – the noise is caused by the pad leaving the rims and returning. It is not braking when not in contact and the noise has no effect on stopping you, it just means that some of the energy needed to return the pad to the rim is being trapped causing a ‘clap’- type noise at high frequency. So the brake efficiency is reduced by a similar amount to the loudness of the squeal?
Thanks Rick noted for future use.
Will fix bikes for beer.
At least, that’s the policy at my shop.
Get used to it, Idle Crossing. Just because he cares doesn’t mean he can get past his own self centeredness and remember to think about you.
Apropos of nothing, but I just wanted to share: http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/05/10/11637824-cyclist-spots-stolen-bike-on-craigslist-steals-it-back?lite
That a bit of good news. Hope the thief gets what he deserves.
Something like this happened in Boulder CO last year as well … almost identical stories, too.

Same response from the cops, too — “Don’t take matters into your own hands”.
Of course not. They hate it when the civilians show them up.
Perceived priorities……
Will fix bikes for favors. Beer. Drugs. Hi-fives. And (rarely) a female companion.
