Capes keep you really dry, but being open at the bottom air can circulate around the legs, and allow ventilation to the torso. Saddle and bars stay dry too. I have two capes. One is 'chilli pepper' red, German, stuffs in its own pocket very small: the summer cape. The winter cape is an English Carradice in bright yellow. Heavier material, rolls up and slots into the loops on the Nelson Longflap nicely. Rain capes rule. Goretex, schmortex.
