Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.
The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.

I could use both of those (a rain cape, and a cuppa coco).
Where’s Fizz?
Probably at school..
Do you mean, where’s Thistle?
K’Tesh If you are looking for a rain cape check out The Monkey King in Hawthorne area in Portland, they have cheap, but good rain capes.
I love my rain cape, and it works great as a cover for the bike. I used it like that whenever I can’t find cover bike parking.
Here is a photo of it as a cover, and Here is a photo of it on me.
I bought a separate rain cover for my bicycle. She loves me because I care for her.
Like an old married couple.
My neighbor at 163 moved away and the other neighbour at 159 came to see me because I collect old bikes for charity and the 163 neighbour had left a MTB for scrap.
He also brought one over when somebody across the road left another MTB for scrap.
Not working at the Bike shop anymore, it was a bit harder to deliver them so they are in my back yard waiting for me to do what I can to make them safe to sell before I take them to the shop. I had a piece of vinyl flooring around so I draped it over the bikes to keep the rain off. They look a bit like the be-caped bike there…
btw – that is a sensible precaution in the rain, especially if you have a leather saddle! I used to do that in the day…
I just want the rain to slow so I can put my leather saddle back on. That day can’t come soon enough!
David.S Brooks make saddle covers for their saddles or there are supermaret poly bags that stuff neatly in the rails in case of precipitation. That and a regular proofide application and my Brooks is a happy bear 20 years in.
I usually use shower caps from hotels. They are no good for me for their intended use but off label I find them great. The Brooks cover has the advantage of being close fitting so it will stay in place on a bike carried on a car. The water proofing on mine seems to have degraded however (PU coat pealing off).
The shower cap is a great idea! I just use a plastic bag shoved in between my rails. This works well, but there has been a time or two when I’ve returned to find the bag has been blown off by a gust of wind.
The Brooks saddle covers are notorious for leaking right out of the box. Always have been, as far as I can determine. My wife and I bought “deluxe” shower caps at a drugstore for $1.19 or so each–they work much better than the hotel variety (don’t blow off in the wind) and last longer too. And never leak.
Plus, they don’t advertise that you have an expensive saddle under them.
My Brooks saddle cover has never leaked, although admittedly it’s only been caught in the rain a few times. Also, the newest Brooks covers don’t have the logo or other identifying marks. Personally, I’m glad I bought mine when they still featured the Brooks name.
Good. Today we’re back to the BikeTalk guys.
They took off the logo to make it less appealing to thieves. Though, if you your are covering your seat, I think they know why, no matter what you use. My wife looked funny at me when I took the shower cap from the hotel the first time, but they are free and come packed in a little box that I keep in the panniers for rainy days.
Geez, you leave your name off and you’re a guest.
Way to go Yehuda… showin a little luv pays big dividends later….
I like to think my bike gets a little heart thought bubble over it when I do nice things. Of course, I also talk to my bike sometimes, usually to apologize for not getting around to cleaning the chain, topping off the air pressure in the tires, or performing some other routine maintenance as soon as I’d like.
Whatever thre case, I always try to make my bike feel loved, and I hope that it appreciates that it gets ridden almost daily, in constrast to the sadly large number of bikes that sit around in a garage or basement gathering dust and suffering unconscionable neglect.
What happened to the fire plug (?) in the 2nd frame? Not exactly relevant to the story line, but enquiring minds need to know…
I have a RandiJo plaid rain cover for the Brooks saddle on my single-speed bike. I keep it in the Brooks saddle bag, wrapped around my WalMart tool kit and Slime Scab tube patches.
I’ve spent almost as much on the saddle, saddle bag, seat cover, and ergo leather grips as for the bike!
I think it’s a small bunny waiting to cross the street. By the 3rd frame it has hopped across is waiting for to be served its hot carrot juice.
Miserable commute today too, but a large mug of hot tea at the office helped indeed. Lucky, my bike goes with me inside
Love the smirk on Joe’s mug behind the coffee mug.
Freezing rain yesterday and today in Boston. They predicted 4-6 inches of snow but nothings been able to accumulate. Days like this make me wish I had rainpaints and boots!
I love when the daily comic matches my life!
Joe said, “I can buy it a cup of hot chocolate if you’d like.” If I were Yehuda, I’d call his bluff.
…. and have Joe take it out to the bike on top of it. 8^)
Keep the Brooks saddle dry when you can!
This photo comes to mind because of today’s subject. http://cslacker.com/images/view/485
Was there no indoor room?
At a coffee shop? Probably not.
awwww I just did that this morning :3 first rain of the season in Santiago de Chile …
