Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.
The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.

I LOVE THIS!!!
Hehehe awesome name for the new Mascot, “Fenders”!!!! Anyways Just want to wish everyone Happy Holidays!
I still prefer the other name people were giving him: “Rustle Pop.” Every time he shows up, it’s “RUSTLE…. POP!” So there ya go.
Merry Christmas – Feliz Navidad – Froehliche Weihnachten – Joyeux Noel – Natale hilare et Annum Faustum – Chung Mung Giang Sinh
P.S. – Heh, heh! I’d love a cat that would travel with me like that and wear a little helmet.
“rustle” & “pop” reminds me of the Hutchinson tubulars i used to ride years ago… the rustle of bursting stitches and the POP of the tyre…
Let us make it Russel Pope
Rustle must be his nickname (Y refers to him as “BOY”)
Fenders RULES!
Fenders’ a fender ornament?
Brilliant! I love that Fenders has a helmet
I love that Fenders has a Brilliant Helment!
Fenders has morse sense than Yehuda.
Lots-o-people have more sense than Yehuda, but Yehuda is way cooler.
Not just a hekmet, a helmet with a headlight. Where did they find one of those in a cat’s size? That must really be a Handlebar Bag of Holding…
Love the 3rd frame.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
Mrow!
Merry Christmas one and all. And Happy Holidays to those who celebrate otherwise!
Season’s greetings!
Meowy Catsmas, effrybuddeh!
wee fish ewe a mare egrets moose, and a hippo gnu’s ear
Is there gonna be a new song “Fenders the Red Helmet Feline”?
Fenders the Red Helmeted Feline
Had a very shiny light
And if You every saw it
You would even say it’s bright…
He didn’t believe Fred’d feed him
So he stowed away outta sight
Then while Yehuda sat fireside
he appeared at night
Then one snowy Christmas Eve
While they made tracks that night
he rustled out of the bag
And provided us all a funny sight
All of the readers of this comic Loved it
and we shouted out with glee
How long will this trip go…
We’ll just have to wait and see!
Guess that the answer to the question was “Yes”.
At least the song is easier to sing to than “Ode to Spot”
Felis Cattus, is your taxonomic nomenclature,
an endothermic quadruped carnivorous by nature?
Your visual, olfactory and auditory senses
contribute to your hunting skills, and natural defenses.
I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
a singular development of cat communications
that obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
for a rhythmic stroking of your fur, to demonstrate affection.
A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
you would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aide in locomotion,
it often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.
O Spot, the complex levels of behaviour you display
connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.
Data, “Schisms”
ROTFLWTRDMF!!!!
I disagree most strongly with the Commander. It is teh kittehs who are sentient. We are merely apes with thumbs.
Is there gonna be a new song “Fenders the Red Helmet Feline”?
Brent Spiner…? WOW!
like this a lot. happy holiday to you all
this captures the true spirit of winter ridin. Thank you so much for the gift of humor. It does so much to encourage cycling in all kinds of weather. We know how fun and rewarding it is, hopefully a few of the non cyclists will come to understand and ride with us. Merry Christmas
LOVE Fenders’ helmet (with headlamp, no less!!!) Wish I could convince any one of my Objects of Worship that cycling was fun! (But possibly my “bag of holding” isn’t as roomy as the one Fenders gets to inhabit!) Anyway, A very Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and a Serene Solstice to everybody else…
Fenders and his little helmet are way cool. Nice touch and the light on his helmet resembles the NiteRider Minewt Mini I have on my helmet. Love the details Rick. Artistry an genious.
I adore this one
Can’t think why..
Something to do with your ‘handle’?
Oooh-err. What’s going on Rick? I click on my name and it comes up as I’m logged in as Extraneco via Twitter and I can see a load of comments for that person… One, I’m not Extraneco, whoever that is and I’m not on Twitter at all! Some sort of security issues going on here!
Strange. Do you share the computer with others? The comments engine has its own log-in system, but also allows for log-ins from other sites (though has no access to that info), so it’s not a security issue.
Even if I click on your name, Rick, and then click on the “my profile” tab, it says I’m Extraneco logged in via twitter.
Stand-alone PC, not networked, not shared with other users, firewall, virus-checker all updated automatically, pop-ups blocked….. condom over the monitor (I believe in safe computing).
Thanks, wafflycat. Now I need to clean my monitor.
Stand-alone PC, not networked, not shared with other users, firewall, virus-checker all updated automatically, pop-ups blocked….. condom over the monitor (I believe in safe computing).
That’s happened to me once before, too (but with a different user ID, not Extraneco). If the comments system keeps track of who we are by IP address, and if your IP address recently changed (perhaps because your Internet provider dynamically assigns addresses, and your modem or router got rebooted), then your new address might previously have been used by Extraneco. I fixed the problem when it happened to me by logging out of the Comments and logging back in.
Merry Chirstmas to all! And to all a good ride!
Merry Christmas
I love it. Merry, Happy, Joyous, Christmahanukkaquanzayulestice to one and all.
You forgot Ramadan.
A morning show at a radio station in Wisconsin, WIIL 95.1FM, used to call it “ChriHanKwaanaDon.”
I like that you added ‘stice’ to the end- my wife, ever the wise woman, noted that Jesus was born in the spring, which was (according to extant ancient Roman records) the time for census-taking. According to the Christian Bible, that is when (and why) Joseph and Mary were en route from Nazareth to his original hometown of Bethlehem.
Given that, and the fact that Constantine misplaced the timing for the celebration of that event, she celebrates the Winter Solstice in December. Why, if she’s a Christian? Because that’s the day with the shortest amount of daylight, and every day grows longer (more daylight, not more time, of course) from that point until the Summer Solstice. She’s solar powered, you see, and also considerably endothermic, so needs the light and warmth to keep her going!
Merry Christmas to all, Happy Holidays.
I look forward to reading this strip every day.
Rustle… Pop!
I love the cat!
When is Yehuda going to get far enough south that he is out of the snow? Or does he want a white Christmas?
Speaking of which, may everyone have a blessed Christmas and a New Year full of joy and love.
He’ll have to go a long way. There is even a possiblility of snow showers in Atlanta, GA. If it sticks, this would be the 1st white Christmas since the 1880s.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays all.
Fenders is wonderfully surreal. Wouldn’t be a moments peace with my cat in a bar bag!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to one and all.
Absolutely wonderful! Merry Christmas! God bless us everyone!
You have to love the cat in the (magical foam) hat – Merry Christmas to one and all…..
Is Fenders a Flanders Cat?
Happy Holidays to all.
Well, I doubt he’s a Simpson’s cat.
best comic ever Rick
Makes me miss my cat Cleo
I want my own Fenders!!!
Nice, i love it.
How about Christmas at Joe’s, Thistle’s, the Shaker’s?
Merry Christmas to everyone. xx
Is the cat going to lecture Yehuda on helmet safety?
Merry Christmas and a belated Festivus one and all. Love the “Handlebar Bag of Holding”…
At least one of ‘em has sense enough to wear a lid.
Last day of work before the Christmas holidays. And a lovely cycle in to work this morning. A more-or-less clear sky, bare roads, seven degrees of frost, a beautiful sunrise on the Eastern horizon and a waning gibbous moon setting on the Western horizon.
The sun and the moon were playing peek-a-boo through the street grid since it was not one of the days of Torontohenge. That is always interesting – when the sun rises or sets in line with the street grid. See:
http://torontoist.com/2010/08/scene_torontohenge_sunrise.php
I’m not a cat lover but I do love the picture of Fenders. However I do have a couple of small black poodles about the same size and bought them little sombreros from Mexico to wear. Of course they won’t except for a pose. But a little black kitty with a helmet (is that Cervelo colours?) and light is super cute!
Merry Christmas to all in whatever variant you do or don’t celebrate.
I’m lovin’ this most recent adventure. It’s been a tough year at the Kickstand, and It just seems like about time Yehuda caught a break and nice to see him finishing out 2010 out there doing what he loves most. Now if he could just come upon some pipe smokin’ hottie to camp out with along the way…..
Where’s the Fizz?
At home, dreaming of sugar plums…
Merry Christmas to all and to all a grrrrrrreat ride
I guess Fender’s wearing a CATLIKE helmet
One of he best comics yet.
At least it stopped us spouting nonsense for fun!
Happy season to everybody. May the next year be a prosperous and enjoyable one for all.
I am looking forward to spending tomorrow at my mother-in-law’s house with the family. Boxing day at my sister-in-law’s, meeting her family and ‘chewing the fat’
Just like most of my married life, over 30 years! Tradition is a wonderful thing to make one feel comfortable and at home.
In the new year, I am looking forward to getting my ‘Trandem’ after the conversion and daily rides with my wife.
Bravo!!! This one was fantastic! Although though the shifter on Yehuda’s bike looks too hi-tech for him, I believe. Yehuda: a Campy man??? Discuss amongst yourselves!
Note the bar end shifters. Those are some modern looking looking brake levers/hoods, but are not brifters. Y’s still def. rocking it old school.
Look back, when Yehuda gets his new Rapid! After his first tryingitout he put on: fenders (not the cat! those around the wheels!), barednschifters, luggage-carrying-device …
Yehuda is not “old school” he’s only practical – and he’s an everyday cyclist and therefor he knows about those littel things to make cycling comfortable. I put a basket to my ‘bent, cause I use it for everyday’s purpose, shopping for instance.
Barcons only when I run drops and shifty bits. And good luck buying new non-aero drop bar brake levers.
Merry Christmas and Happy Everything Else!
Merry Christmas to you all – from myself, Linus and Dixie (the indoor cats), and Manson, Squeak and Cringe (the outdoor cats who live under my workshop. Tuna for five tomorrow morning, to celebrate the day.
And a house is not a home without a cat(s).
“And a house is not a home without a cat(s).” So true, but then, once you have cat(s) it becomes *their* house, you are only there on sufferance.
This is one of those very specail Yehuda comics, super, super job Rick and co.
I giggled and was reminded how big a blessing this simple comic is in my life. <3
Helmet? Must be Joe’s cat.
