“rustle” & “pop” reminds me of the  Hutchinson tubulars i used to ride years ago… the rustle of bursting stitches and the POP of the tyre…

      Fenders the Red Helmeted Feline
      Had a very shiny light
And if You every saw it
You would even say it’s bright…

He didn’t believe Fred’d feed him
So he stowed away outta sight
      Then while Yehuda sat fireside
      he appeared at night

      Then one snowy Christmas Eve
While they made tracks that night
he rustled out of the bag
And provided us all a funny sight

All of the readers of this comic Loved it
and we shouted out with glee
How long will this trip go…
We’ll just have to wait and see!

At least the song is easier to sing to than “Ode to Spot”

Felis Cattus, is your taxonomic nomenclature,
an endothermic quadruped carnivorous by nature?
Your visual, olfactory and auditory senses
contribute to your hunting skills, and natural defenses.

I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
a singular development of cat communications
that obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
for a rhythmic stroking of your fur, to demonstrate affection.

          A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
you would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aide in locomotion,
it often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.

O Spot, the complex levels of behaviour you display
connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.

And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

          Data, “Schisms”

LOVE Fenders’ helmet (with headlamp, no less!!!)  Wish I could convince any one of my Objects of Worship that cycling was fun!  (But possibly my “bag of holding” isn’t as roomy as the one Fenders gets to inhabit!)  Anyway, A very Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and a Serene Solstice to everybody else…

Strange. Do you share the computer with others? The comments engine has its own log-in system, but also allows for log-ins from other sites (though has no access to that info), so it’s not a security issue.

That’s happened to me once before, too (but with a different user ID, not Extraneco).  If the comments system keeps track of who we are by IP address, and if your IP address recently changed (perhaps because your Internet provider dynamically assigns addresses, and your modem or router got rebooted), then your new address might previously have been used by Extraneco.  I fixed the problem when it happened to me by logging out of the Comments and logging back in.

You forgot Ramadan. :) A morning show at a radio station in Wisconsin, WIIL 95.1FM, used to call it “ChriHanKwaanaDon.”

I like that you added ‘stice’ to the end- my wife, ever the wise woman, noted that Jesus was born in the spring, which was (according to extant ancient Roman records) the time for census-taking. According to the Christian Bible, that is when (and why) Joseph and Mary were en route from Nazareth to his original hometown of Bethlehem.

Given that, and the fact that Constantine misplaced the timing for the celebration of that event, she celebrates the Winter Solstice in December. Why, if she’s a Christian? Because that’s the day with the shortest amount of daylight, and every day grows longer (more daylight, not more time, of course) from that point until the Summer Solstice. She’s solar powered, you see, and also considerably endothermic, so needs the light and warmth to keep her going!

Last day of work before the Christmas holidays.  And a lovely cycle in to work this morning.  A more-or-less clear sky, bare roads, seven degrees of frost, a beautiful sunrise on the Eastern horizon and a waning gibbous moon setting on the Western horizon.

The sun and the moon were playing peek-a-boo through the street grid since it was not one of the days of Torontohenge.  That is always interesting – when the sun rises or sets in line with the street grid.  See:

I’m not a cat lover but I do love the picture of Fenders.  However I do have a couple of small black poodles about the same size and bought them little sombreros from Mexico to wear.  Of course they won’t except for a pose.  But a little black kitty with a helmet (is that Cervelo colours?) and light is super cute!

Look back, when Yehuda gets his new Rapid! After his first tryingitout he put on: fenders (not the cat! those around the wheels!), barednschifters, luggage-carrying-device …
Yehuda is not “old school” he’s only practical – and he’s an everyday cyclist and therefor he knows about those littel things to make cycling comfortable. I put a basket to my ‘bent, cause I use it for everyday’s purpose, shopping for instance.

Who’s Yehuda Moon?

Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.

The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.
