Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.
The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.

Fred takes Yehuda with him
I hope not – maybe Fred’s returned to his old bike shop to help Yehuda out. I must say, though, Fred’s looking pretty good: he’s got rid of the scratches and scars. Maybe he’s more at peace now.
But, as Bryce wrote below, seeing him again is still pretty moving…
: P
Isn’t he’s just collecting Yehuda to take him to purgatory? (if such thing does exist).
Fred look like he’s in heawen now, with de hawaiian shirt, he’s on an eternal vacation
Yes, I was going to make a comment about the Hawaiian print shirt, but you got here first.
I think Fred has finally found peace, and the Hawaiian shirt is evidence that he’s reached paradise (remember that he always appeared before with woodsman’s flannel, probably the shirt he was wearing when he was killed). So he’s here to save Yehuda — just as Clarence Odbody saves George Bailey — and earn his wings.
Fred will help save Yehuda. Then Fred will quit his wanderings because he’s prevented a death, even though it’s not his own. He’ll learn that his death has already happened, so he can’t do anything about it. But saving Yehuda was worthwhile and now he’s free of his torment. And Yehuda can’t die, anyway – he’s the title of the cartoon.
“And Yehuda can’t die, anyway – he’s the title of the cartoon.”
Just for the sake of keeping the suspense alive : so is the Kickstand…
the kickstand can’t die – its a building.
It’s a building – with a life!
It’s a building all right, holodri – and it’s getting a cremation right now, in case you haven’t noticed.
-Stinko
Yehuda will die and come back as a bike shop. It will be shaped like a giant Yehuda, and you enter and exit through his zipper.
Wow, this story line is freaking me out! Its feeling more and more like halloween.
Fred is going to SAVE… YEHUDA. Woohooo!!!
This answers those who thought That Fred was imaginary!
Great stuff Rick – I love it
It’s not too often an online comic gives you chills!
Yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. <3
I can’t get “Like” to work. It just says “Liking…” and then doesn’t change any more.
Nevertheless, I like your post.
: P
I know what you mean – The system doesn’t recognize me anymore. I have to enter my name and my cat-avatar is gone!
Nice shirt! Been on vacations Fred?
Maybe in a warmer place?
Now that poor firefighter will dive in chasing a ghost.
Glad you took Fred’s speech bubble out, Rick – this is better. Great arc!
i had be pre-checking for like a week to spot differences like this, and the one day i forget to, i miss it. crap.
Wow MJ, you don’t sound at all smug. Or anything.
Uh, sorry if I’ve offended you Gemima..?
The iGoogle gadget tends to update before the main page does. Sometimes there are differences.
I imagine Rick sometimes has to make choices with his work, I was merely trying to give hime some positive encouragement that he made a good decision…
Awww – I shouldn’t think she meant it like that mate!
this is more like steve king’s movie..watch out for the next story.. scary thoughts….
Yehuda, you must go to the Dagobah system…
Yay, Fred!!
Anyone else think Fred is looking just a little like Hunter Thompson today?
Yehuda goes with Fred, and leaves his shares to Thistle.
Congratulations to wafflycat and Zydeco for predicting Fred’s reappearance to save Yehuda.
Hmmm… “wafflycat and Zydeco.” Sounds like a cop show or a vaudeville act.
Wafflycat Zydeco is the name off my new band!
Nice Hawaiian shirt. Did Fred just come back from vacation?
Maybe he’s been hanging out at the beach with Sheldon Brown.
That, Widsith, is a lovely thought.
+1!
-Stinko
These twists are better than the ones in Twilight Zone
For the last week, first thing in the morning I had to check what’s going on at Yehuda’s. It’s so freaking exciting, I really can’t wait for the next episodes! Give me more!!!
By the way, it’s so sweet he went in for Sprocket! Love finally?
Always meant to complement you on the nice colors in this ‘toon. Especially the night scenes with the fire have been quite visually captivating…
Lovin’ the artworh, Rick
The suspense is awesome! I’m loving this story line. I can’t wait for the next day…every day! I really hope Yahuda comes out of the fire alright. I’m sure Fred will guide him.
Can anyone point out what date to dig back to if I want to learn who FRED is???
http://www.yehudamoon.com/index.php?date=20080226 First appearence of Fred.
My friend’s ghost bike has been up for 18 months. Ithought it would be removed in a few weeks, but no one has messed with it. When we put it up we were not even sure if we placed it on public or private property. We are still not sure. Whoever owns the property mows and weed wacks around it. They have my respect.

I often wonder what the person who killed my friend thinks when he sees it. Does he even drive down the road or does he avoid it. The police didn’t charge him with any offense. Didn’t even charge him with violating the 3 Foot Law.
take the four hours and read it from the beginning. that’s the only way to really understand what’s going on here.
and believe me, it’s worth it.

Hello there, Fred – we missed you, good buddy!
-Stinko
He wasn’ty so good. Almost got Yehuda put in jail!
almost killed some people too
I wonder how many people’s lives he saved by getting cars off the road – even if it was only temporary?
Almost killing people is bad. So is getting others locked up… but to be fair he was dealing with anger issues. He was after all stuck wondering around reliving his death for a while. not saying its justifiable, but I’d be pretty PO’d myself if I were him
You’re all forgetting that Fred IS the Kickstand; he’s what keeps Yehuda, Joe, and everyone else going.
As for his post-mortal actions; well, you can take that up with your science fiction writers to argue whether that should be accountable or not.
That said, allow me to propose a toast to Fred; truly a great friend – even if of another world than the living – to the Kickstand crew.
-Stinko
Toast? Is that a word we really want to use right now?
Oh, dry up.
-Stinko
It would be hilarious if the comic just took a super dark turn here…
Yehuda dies a horrible death.
Joe is overcome with guilt and kills himself
Thistle and her husband both can’t find jobs and end up on the street
Fizz is taken away by social workers
The last comic is just a splash page of the kickstand in ruins, a bike rusting away outside.
Hilarious, huh? If you dislike this comic so much why keep coming back?
I think he was joking -
Uh, yeah. It was a joke Yolanda. I love this comic.
I think it would be funny because Rick has always managed to keep things light and fun. And after all this time, abruptly twisting things and then ending the comic in a super depressing way would confuse a lot of long time readers.
Hard to believe that required explaining.
and Fred with a pitchfork and devil horns dancing in flames
It’s terrible to think about, but I’m going to confess that this post made me laugh out loud. If it really happened, I’d be sad. The concept, however, is rather funny. :/
Then the ghost bike would still be up? COOL! One point for the cycling community!
Nice to see Fred back on a bike
Can someone link me to the comic with ‘future yahuda’, the one with one arm?
AO
http://www.yehudamoon.com/index.php?date=20090628
But maybe this is where Yehuda loses his arm? I thought it would be in the winter, but it healed.
…”That boy is our only hope… <No, there is another>
Sorry the Dagobah reference got to me.
Go FRED!
Did we learn nothing from “Back to the Future III”? The future is not set.
Then Joe must be the one to change things, since he was the one to have seen the future?
And I really like the title today “Pulled away from his travels”. I hope I, like Fred, get to go on a nice long bike tour … later on.
hopefully this becomes clear tomorrow. I honestly don’t understand it.
Fred has returned (briefly) from the afterlife to guide Yehuda to safety — whether in this world or the next. Only time (and Rick) will tell.
This strip is so rich.
Bob
I just dawned on me Fred had always wanted to bike tour. With that shirt it looks like a bike ride from Cleveland to Hawaii is posible in the after life. Sorry to see him pulled back by Yehduda’s need. I hope he can help fend off the Grim Reaper. Does he remind anyone else of Mister Miyagi from the Karate Kid? At least I can say he was an old man and a mentor.
This has gone on long enough.
