Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.
The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.

OMG!
Dang… That’s one big tree.
I hope that they’ve got a good insurance policy.
So what is Yehuda up to to get that reaction from Joe?
Is he looking for the insurance papers or the remains of Sister Sprocket?
But what will happen to the poor elves who live in that tree and bake the cookies!
Maybe now they can come out at night while Yehuda’s asleep and fix bikes for him.
Did anybody notice the power lines alsobrought down by the tree? Maybe that’s what Joe has spotted that Yehuda hasn’t seen.
Is the sister still in there?
I don’t see any feet sticking out from under the building so my guess is no.
Mother of God…
I always thought the Kickstand needed a root-and-branch reorganisation. Yehuda’s been barking up the wrong tree for a while, and sapping everyone’s patience. Now at least he might twig what he’s been doing wrong and turn over a new leaf.
Oh dear, what pun-ishment!
Perhaps that nut should be tossed into a trunk for that. I can hardly believe that all those puns are going to bear fruit. Now, if I can only find a way to add another one myself… Dang, it’s going to be acorn in my side.
Really..they’re jumping the shark?
Come on now, that’s a lot of water but enough for a shark to swim into, really?
I hope not. I really like this strip. But I see your point. Yehuda does need a wakeup call.
Like we’re really supposed to believe that they didn’t check the weather report to plan for the party.
I seriously see this being one of those “Dream Sequence Episodes” that Joe or Yehuda’s having..thus the proverbial wake-up call can still happen either way as Yehuda will mellow out, Joe will see Thistle’s value, whatever.
Maybe it’s Fizz’s dream?
When they said, “Open House”……..
The party really brought the house down.
That was my comment from the other day.
Sorry, must’ve forgotten to add it to my database of previously made comments!
NOT THE BIKES!!!!!
on a side note: If they rent a mobile saw mill or ask the shakers for some help they have their new lumber for the shop already plus some
If Sprocket is in there then, according to non-cyclists (and most occasional leisure cyclists), if she’s wearing a helmet she’ll be ok…
Ergo, if she’s not wearing one, she’s protected. Insightful.
Because a polystyrene cap will save her life when 100 tons of tree lands on her…
Okay, everybody, we’ve been through The Great Helmet Debate a number of times. Let’s not do it again. It just turns into the usual trolling and flaming that makes reading the comments a lot less enjoyable.
Who is the third person in frame #1?
One of the open-housers leaving late, at a guess. Doesn’t look like Sister Sprocket…
: P
fred. he had just battled his way out of heaven and was returning to the quickstand to take charge.
The man from the grassy knoll? The smoking man? Deep throat?
LOL the smoking man
A gawker. Can’t have an accident or a disaster without at least one.
OH SHIT!
I say Yehuda comes back out with the Van Sweringen!!
o kurwa!
i hope they open up a new branch of the bike shop…
Where is Yehuda going to live now? Probably not the shop.
A treehouse is also unlikely.
Nature abhores a vacuum. With Thistle gone, the tree has taken her place.
Au contraire. The delicate balance between good (Thistle) and evil (Sprocket) is now weighted against the Kickstand with Thistle’s leaving.
Hmm…is Mr. Thistle in the construction business?
Gonna need someone to design a new shop(LEED) with the insurance money.
Assuming they have insurance… I hope they do.
Wait–Power goes on – Gas Leak – Spark — Poof. The whole place is gone!
Don’t Go there Rick!!!
The Kickstand shares some similarities with Snoopy’s doghouse. They’re basically the same shape, and apparantly contain vastly more interior volume than their outside dimensions suggest.
And Yehuda, like Snoopy, has an imagined nemesis (cars) that he battles while wearing a distinctive hat.
So now Yehuda is going to sleep on the roof?
Called it! Well in my head – I didn’t post :/ I’m sure Rick has some grand plans…the Shakers can build barns (or bike shops) as well as bike frames, right?
Arg – is this the end of the strip? How can you have a “Yehuda Moon and the Kickstand Cyclery” comic strip with no Yehuda and no Kickstand?
Somehow, this was my immediate reaction too. The End.
Maybe Rick got tired of all of the annoying utility-cyclist-nazi comments removing all of the fun from the strip.
Why the doom and gloom? Buildings can be repaired or rebuilt.
Dislike.
Yea, I’m not seeing an ending, but a new beginning. I hope!
That’s it – Ep 4: ‘A New Hope’?
Yehuda runs into the shop to rescue Sister Sprocket, but sees his beloved bicycle lying next to her… what does he do?!?
Checks the bike, obviously! (g) I fell a few years ago and when I called in to the office to tell them what happened the first question I got asked was, “How’s the bike?”
When i crashed near the doorstep of my workplace a couple of years ago, my coworkers at the scene got a laugh out of me (bloody mess that i was,) when i asked “How’s my bike?”
I took a spill a couple of years ago (only a few months after breaking my arm in another crash). My first thoughts were, “Why didn’t this happen *before* I wrapped my bars with new tape?! I hope it’s not scuffed!”
That reminds me of a m/c buddy in the 1970s – he rode his 350 through red lights and the car took the front end of his bike away.
As he was being wheeled into the ambulance he was heard to call out ‘Don’t damage the bike!
He ties Sprocket on the bike and rolls her out, of course.
i guess they need an engineer now huh
Now THAT’S mayhem!
Come on folks, its just a roof! Hardly the end.
I agree with it not being the end of the strip (I think Rick would tie up most of the loose ends first), but it looks to me like it’s more than just the roof. Plus the tree took a couple of light poles with it, or maybe a power line too. Throw in the storm and electrical problems and it could spell FIRE.
Agree with the too many loose ends.
Yehuda would have to:
Catch the Ninja
Eliminate autombiles
Bring peace to the Middle East
Joe would have to:
Catch the Grail
Shave his Unibrow
And I would have to wake up in bed with Suzanne Pleshette!
Suzanne Pleshette? And I thought I was getting old…
ACORN YEAR!

When life gives you lemons….
Mill all that nice oak into lumber for a sweet second story, maybe get a small craft brewery running up there, with Shaker-Grown Barley and Hops. Or use the oak for barrels and have a little whiskey still up in that new second floor….
Arbor(ium) Brewery…?
Mmmm Vansweringen Porter.
Unobtainum Pale Ale
Who is the third shadow to the left of Yehuda???
Can we have another bit of thunder to wake Yehuda from his nightmare?
I recommend the movie “Never Let Go” for a riviting account of not having proper insurance when faced with a loss. The lads at the shop don’t seem to be the sort that would be prepared for this disaster. Of course the Amish will bail them out with a traditional barn raising to rebuild.
Ouch. That’s not good for the Kickstand…
What worries me is that Yehuda is charging straight to the building (hence Joe’s “WAIT!”)
Rick, please don’t turn this into an electrocution story.

That tree sure looks like it’s not on the Kickstand’s property. If so, it’s not the Kickstand’s insurance that would be paying for the damage.
This is considered an “act of god” and the propoerty owner is not responsible for damages.
So, in this case, Kickstand insurance would need to pay the bills. Unless they could prove that the property owner failed to take care of the tree…i.e. dead tree for a long time period with neglect
not to be all serious on you…but, you know
The tree appears to be healthy and the trunk didn’t break off, it just got uprooted by the storm. So it definitely looks like “Act of God” damage to me.
Remember when Joe called after Thistle: “The Kickstand will always be here for you!” Takes on a sense of irony now when you look back. Now what? Very good artwork again; Rick has a way with creating gloomy, rainy, windy scenes. And the fallen tree! Is that a street light stanchion that has also been knocked down?
Its getting real now..
Where will Yehuda sleep tonight? At joe’s? Wow, heavy duty scene, this is as big as when Yehuda got stuck in a snow drift last winter!
Rick, you’re amazing!
Though I do love the strip, I think this would be a great way for Rick to end the strip. We’ve grown to like the characters and, like real life, tragedy sometimes changes things.
Based on what I’ve seen of the way Joe and Yehuda talk about the finances of the shop, and with the recent departure of Thistle, well, a real shop would probably just close up and and owners would move on to some new venture. That’s real life.
Of course, Yehuda would have to find a new place to live, but, who knows, maybe both Yehuda and Sprocket would soften a bit and, well, they’d make an interesting couple, to say the least.
Anyway, that’s what I would do if I were the one drawing the strip. I’m sure Rick’s plans are even better.
Why do you want to make me sad?
A house divided against itself can not stand.
Goodnight Moon.
Coincidentally, the chestnut tree that Anne Frank wrote about in her diary fell on August 23rd. It was more than 170 years old. More info here: http://ls2.annefrank.org/en/Worldwide/Anne-Frank-Tree/
I would guess that this is not the end. Now wouldn’t be a good time to end considering the recent subscription drive. All the new subscribers, hopefully there was many, wouldn’t feel they’d been treated fairly. Then again if there wasn’t enough support now might be a good time to wind it down.
