Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.
The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.

Love it!
Is it just me or is Fizz channelling Eddy Merckx
Score another one for the cutest character of the comic! YAY FIZZ!!!! FREE FIZZ!!!!
Sorry, but I find the precocious kid bit annoying.
Doohickie is annoying.
Hear, Hear for another undohickying.
Just a bit of comic history: Snoopy was met with pockets of hard resistance, too, but Charlie Brown did just fine. Fizz cracks me up. She holds the mirror to all of us. Thanks, Rick!
A question, because i noticed all the roadies. why hasnt the kickstand ever sold MTB, bmx, or fixies?
Maybe as the Shakers make the frames, the frames are unsuitable? For MTB use anyway
A fixie is a different thing. If they made fixie frames, they would be smaller, lighter, stronger and pretty
maybe the shakers hate those darn bmx punks
. But sister sprocket is a fixie pixie, so maybe its just personal preference. when i think of it, so is one of the kids
a “thing” is a tarck bike. they seem to sell those.
What’s a tarck bike?
For that matter, where are the recumbent hammock jockeys with their aerobellies and beards to suck down the open house beer?

Behold!
Good one – but I thought it was a joke that the Raleigh ‘Chopper’ was being referred-to as a ‘recumbent’
I resemble that remark
I love the look on Fizz’s face on Thistle’s back’
‘Free Fizz’ – Lovely
Fizz for President anybody?
btw – ‘virgin chain gang’ … I found groups called ‘Extra Virgin’ and ‘Chain Gang’ but not a cocktail name. New drink by Rick? Or are we seeing a bit of Rick’s record/CD collection?
“Virgin” in a drink name simply means non-alchoholic.
The “virgin” part is obvious. What’s a “chain gang”? I couldn’t find a cocktail with that name either.
On Ragbrai, they used markers on first time (virgin) rider’s calves to make similar markings.
The Pashley bit was a lot funnier.
Don’t mind sourpuss Rick, just ’cause Widsmith didn’t get to fall out of bed laughing doesn’t mean that this isn’t one of the best strips this year! (No insult to Widsmith – just funning)
Do you really think that? I thought it was below average.
I liked it. I thought it was great! I’ve missed Fizz!
But it could have been SO much better…
I thought it would too obscure and lost my nerve. Why are you peeking anyhow
I don’t think it would have been obscure to those who read the comments. And I peek because I (usually) enjoy seeing the subtle changes to dialogue, facial expressions, etc. from one version to the next. The pre-coloring ones were especially interesting.
I wanna peek too! How do I do it?
Me too! How? How?
I’d rather leave this for Rick to answer (or not) as he chooses, as I don’t know if he wants it to be public knowledge.
Lookout behind ya, Lance…
Absolutely love it, Rick.
That’s a great new profile picture. You have a sort of Barbara Feldon/Karen Carpenter thing going on there.
*blush* Thank you.
You’re welcome.
Something will happen…..
I hated when I was younger an always had to go home for bed an miss the rest of the parties…
Now I’m older and just not invited
Parties? They still have those? Wouldn’t know; I’m usually nitey-nite around 8:00.
Martina: Damn, I’ve got the same feeling.
Mister All Creator – don’t hurt them…. please.
Fizz will be avenged!
I love it. Yesterday I was riding and thinking, OH MAN! I forogot to check Yehuda Moon! You got me addicted Rick!
Am I the only one who is absolutely sick of the little arrows in the comic? They often times are distracting, and only serve to point out some useless information or to explain something that the art already is (or should be) doing. For example, a while back there was a little arrow pointing to a note, with the text “Reading so-and-so’s Note”. Well no shit. We can see that. The art is showing us this. And the arrows pointing to the frames? Every strip? This doesn’t add anything to the story, the dialogue, or anything, really. It makes me feel like I’m reading something written by a grade schooler, who has to explain the parts of the drawing. “Owl head”, “Lasers”, “Machine gun that shoots knives that stab using guns that also shoot knives”.
Yes you are the only one. I like the arrows and mini-explanations.
Me too – Many times a simple note may be attributed to a different person – the arrows are like speech-baloons to give us more stuff to love and enjoy.
Personally, I like the little notes. They’re unobtrusive, and pay a nice homage to Chester Gould’s little labels that he used to put in the “Dick Tracy” comics. For example:

That’s really interesting! I had no idea this was done previously. I still don’t like it, personally, but it’s neat to see they are taking ideas from the older comic artists.
I think what I failed to explain as well in my initial post was how I feel they interrupt the flow of the comic, in my eyes at least. I read the comic as they are typically meant to be read, following the text from character to character. When there is text with the arrow like that, I stop moving from character to character to read the arrow text, which makes me feel like I’m interrupting the flow of a conversation, the progression of the story (in that strip). Also, the art in this strip is good enough that a lot of the arrows are unnecessary. This is not xkcd, where the artist can’t draw for shit and could probably use these identifying marks, rather than crappy ambiguous stick figures. But here, we can tell the frames are the special artistic ones (especially since they have been mentioned so much recently, both in text and drawn). We can tell someone is reading a note, because the note is in their hand in near their face, and we can see their eyes looking at it. If the art wasn’t particularly good, sure these explanations might be helpful, but as of now I think they are just a little too repetitive (i.e. pointing out which bike Joe/Yehuda is riding).
I’ve learned more about the little details of the community of cycling and cycling life from the little arrows than from any article or book I’ve ever read on beginning to cycle.
Yesterday I rode a bike alone for the first time since I was twelve years old and a car took me off one.
I am thirty-seven years old.
This strip, with all its gitchy details and gently spelled out in-jokes, has had a LOT to do with me taking that step.
So– yeah. This isn’t Style, this is part of the Substance of the strip. If the signs just tell you what you already know, then don’t sweat the signs and ride on through– but don’t fuss about taking the signs out, there are beginners sharing this space.
Welcome back, Anonymous New Rider!
I like the little notes. Im dense and appreciate their helpfullness.
Yup, only one. Sorry, I think they’re a fun addition.
Hmm maybe you should read another comic. Or better yet start your own. I like the comic just fine each day. Plus it’s things like the arrows that keep the comic inclusive so first time readers can make sense of it.
OK I did searches on several bar and bartender sites and I can’t find a recipe for a “Chain Gang” virgin or otherwise. I know this is a real drink because I had one back in the ’80s when I was drinking at bars. (Now I just drink on camputs.)
Banana liqueur, amaretto, peppermint schnapps. One of Charles barker Jr.’s flights of fancy…

If that’s what’s in a Chain Gang, what could possibly be in a non-alcoholic Chain Gang?
Pretty funny. Some folks just hate kids.
Some folks have good reason.
like bus drivers
