Let’s see who the SUV driver is and what the person does to possibly help.

Faith and Optimism here folks, hard lessons have hard endings a lot, but not always.

Really though, you beat me b/c I’m working on a ride video and how to solve the film quality problems. There might be a time lapse in the works. :)

Now if only it’d been Stoke’s fixy, the thief would be on the tarmac the first time he tried to freewheel…

Ha-ha, yeah cuz it’s such a difficult concept to get you never need to lock it. Works for tricycles, right? </sarcasm>

Exactly. Following that logic, a fixed gear bike doesn’t need to be locked.

You can quarrel with the proportionality of it, but at least we are moving away from senseless violence here. I live in an area where many innocent bystanders are killed each year by gangbangers who never learn to aim their weapons properly and generally graze their target while killing children and old folks. In this case, a man was killed for actually committing some sort of tort against another man’s property. Excessive, but again, on the continuum of violence, it’s actually not that horrific.

My sense is that the law is more likely to punish a cyclist for assault for an open hand slap on a fender than they are to punish a motorist for running a cyclist down.

Stokeley, get on your bike and follow the hairy-handed miscreant.  If you loose sight, follow the sweat trail. Don’t engage the thief. Try to enlist other riders are you go.

By the time you explain things to a driver Chunkbait’s ride will be history.

Trust me on this one, Stokeley. I am so smart I communicate with cartoon characters.

So who’s going to show up and save the day? Will it be Yehuda? Joe? Thistle? Sprocket? Another Shaker? The city councilor? A driver of a blue car? Fred’s ghost? (We haven’t seen much of him lately…) Maybe the tricycle peleton will all gang up on him!

All else fails, that’s an almost-surefire way to get someone to stop.  When you have the blink of an eye to react, don’t discount what’s effective.  *SMACK*  ”Sorry ’bout that, but my friend’s getting mugged!!  Help us out and I’ll square with you about the car after!”  Don’t knock it…I’ve had to use it before.  (Thankfully, not for a mugging.)

Comments above have assumed that Stokely’s smack actually damaged the SUV – I don’t think so!
No damage = nothing to get mad about, apart from causing a driver to stop! I agree, a surefire way to get a motorist to stop, but must be quick to explain why before losing teeth!

Who’s Yehuda Moon?

Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.

The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.
