Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.
The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.

Today I leave a comment…..
Alien abduction?
My thought exactly…
If he had a Pashley Soverign with double top tube and full chaincase, he would have been too heavy for the alien tractor beam to pick him up.
And then…? Lift-off?
Kinda like Robinson Crusoe, one footprint.
ET!
Snow is melting
Hommage à Karel ?apek…
…He’s a robot??
See more specifically:
Footprints
The Footprint
seems like fred signed up
?
Hommage à Charles Addams.
Specifically, the Charles Addams comic where the ski tracks go around both sides of the tree.
It reminds me of this cartoon:
http://www.cartoonstock.com/directory/C/Charles_Addams.asp
Both cartoons leave me thinking: “Just what is happening here?”
Yes, that’s a favorite. I like to leave tracks like that when I got XC skiing. (a little tricky but can be done)
“[He] walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away” Gen 5:24. In this case obviously it should be rode, not walked. But why did he have to stop?
Crevasse…
Just waiting at the red light.
Please don’t stop with the comics!!!
Holiday.
Damn!
Ok, have a good vacation Rick!
Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Have a good break, look forward to your return.
+1
Bring me back a Tee Shirt
Ditto
Have a great break, Rick. We will miss you (and Yehuda, Joe, Thistle, Fizz and all the rest of the cast and crew of this fabulous comic site! Looking forward to April………………………..
*sigh* It won’t be easy going without my daily Yehuda fix, but I’ll muddle through somehow. Enjoy your break, Rick…thanks for the contributing role you play in my daily life of slow riding on my cruiser with its rear basket of holding. One of these days, I’ll divulge the wide array of its contents…just as soon as I get some flares. Namaste’.
I wish MY cruiser had a basket of holding…
It’s a well deserved break. I’m impressed that Rick can keep up a 7-day strip schedule, and I look forward to seeing it show up again in May. =)
Rick must be a tax accountant or something, why else would he take time off this time of year?
Have a good break, enjoy the time off!
And finally the secret of the spokeless bicyle wheel is revealed: http://www.nhregister.com/video/video-news/?media=11004012
Waiting for the return.
Dear Rick,
Please accept my best wishes for a refreshing holiday. I look forward to the future adventures of the Kickstand gang.
Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us. It is greatly appreciated.
Yesterday was a beautiful winter day here in Toronto. It was sunny and (relatively) warm. After work, my wife had given me a lengthy shopping list that required me to go to several stores, including a Persian specialty shop. So I got on my bicycle, my beloved Pashley, and cycled hither and yon throughout the City.
As I went, I realised that I was incredibly happy. Life is wonderful. The day was beautiful. The City was its energetic self. All the other bicycle commuters were out in full force, including the full contingent of young women whose outfits screamed “hypothermia!” But I am not quite so old yet that I cannot appreciate the look.
Being a cancer survivor helped. The doctors say that I really should be dead now. Sorry to disappoint them. Every day is a gift, to be enjoyed and to use to help make the world a better place for all its people.
I’ll be back!
That comment was in extremely poor taste. At times like this I really wish there was a “Dislike” button available.
..usually cancer returns on fridays fish platter. but i prefer lobster.
who cares?
Knock…. knock…. HOWWLLLLLLLLLL HOWL knock.
Knock…. knock….
Knock…. knock…. HOWWLLLLLLLLLL HOWL knock.
HOWWLLLLLLLLLL HOWL knock.
Maybe pleeeeeez just a comic or 2 on weekends??? We all look forward to Yehuda’s return in May. In addition to anyone here who comments, there are hundreds of thousands of daily readers who love YM & TKC. Rick, hope you get some good R & R (ride & relaxation time). The anticipation of WinterRide, Sister Sprocket & the Shakers tales, discovery of Fred’s killer, the summer fun of competition with Rival Cycles – it will be worth the wait. Happy Trails!
Rick — Thanks for all of the great work and I hope you enjoy the break! My morning won’t be the same without a little Yehuda and the gang.
Believe it or not, I feel like crying. I’ll have to find something else to look forward to every morning. When all the world is heavy, this comic is my relief.
Sniff.
He just ride backwar.
Whooa! Ok, then… This would be cycling’s equivalent of Field of Dreams…Yehuda steps into the snow drift at the edge of the road and sees…
Enjoy the holidays, Rick – well deserved!
Now what do I do after i make the morning coffe? My routine is ruined! Woe is my own bad self.
We all need to figure out how to make this lucrative enough that Rick can give up that oppressive day job that keeps interfering with OUR Kickstand addictions! Let’s get creative here! Something more than, “Rick, does your WIFE WORK? ;-)
At the risk of blaspheming, I’ve often wondered why Rick doesn’t run ads on his page. I get (and greatly appreciate) the purity thing, but I think we’re all pretty inured to ads on webpages these days. If they’re good enough, it might even be a nice service to readers to find links to things we might want….
Anyway, thanks, Rick, for your wonderful art & stories. I’m keeping this as my homepage on all 3 computers just in anticipation. I got money given to me for my birthday specifically so I could buy more YM stuff!
I see how it is. As soon as the weather starts to warm Rick is off for “vacation”. AKA: riding. Enjoy your rides Rick.
Sometines you have to stop to appreciate the things you have in life.
Taking a break? There is no patch of yellow snow.
Many thanks and enjoy your time off.
thanks Rick will be looking forward to the return
Such disappointment at the pause! However, it will make the return of the Kickstand that much sweeter.
@Tandemman, and any readers who read and don’t offer support, enjoying the strip is a great reason to support it with dollars. If enough of us who read do so, then maybe Rick would be able to devote more time to writing…
Enjoy your break Rick.
Oh, I don’t think the goal is to pay Rick enough money so that he’s tied to his drafting board 24/7. I hope everyone contributes so that when Rick goes on much deserved vacations from his day job, he has extra spending money!
I DO subscribe, I wish everybody did!
I wonder what this does to the Google Gadget I created… looks like I might be doing some coding tonight to fix any errors caused by the fact that there isn’t a comic tomorrow. I guess I didn’t anticipate a holiday. Anyways, Rick, enjoy your time off and we’ll see you in the spring.
Jordan…. maybe set the clock back so your Gadget reviews some of the early strips? That way we can re-live them one day at a time like they were meant to be. I read them all, but I did it over only a few days after finding the strip.
It’s an idea, anyway….
Thanks for that gadget, it’s what I’ve been using. Like seeing the 1st frame on my Google page every day.
The beauty of the Gadget is it increments itself so wonderfully so I don’t have to update the image location every night for the next morning’s comic. Messing with the clock and mathematically setting it back to the beginning of the strip means if I don’t catch when Rick comes back to posting, I’d potentially be running old strips and users of my Gadget wouldn’t get fresh ones. Instead I’ve added error checking to see if a new strip has posted. If not, then it displays Rick’s “post-it” note. I’ll be checking my Gadget every day, awaiting Rick’s return.
Could you create a second gadget called “Yehuda Reboot” or something like that?
Great idea Doohickie! Your wish is my command. I present to you, “Kickstand Classics.” You can download it here: http://www.google.com/ig/adde?moduleurl=hosting.gmodules.com/ig/gadgets/file/106082546612933678111/yehudamoonclassics.xml
Looks like ET just took Yehuda and his BMX airborn.
have a great vaca! cant wait for the new ones!
Annual Spring Break? Am looking forward to the story lines that you work out during the break and meanwhile will miss your strip with its daily discussions with often interesting links. Am anticipating a bit of withdrawal from the addiction.
So it looks like we’re on our own for the Winteride!
Have a great vacation, Rick.
sad to see the break, but it is very understandable and well deserved. enjoy the time to work on the stories, and we will anxiously await the return.
the strip it self I love, and the break is very understandable… Doesnt quite change the fact that today brings me great sarrow.
Still, enjoy the break rick
Thanks Rick enjoy a well deserved break.
Ok now what I am gonna do for the next 60+ days hmmmmm
Hmm. I wonder if Rick will continue the series as though stuff was happening while he was away. Will we see Yehuda and Sister Sprocket married with kids? Will we see the Lauterbrunnental Leaflet go digital to save on printing costs?
I keep thinking of the Farley comics, by the late Phil Frank. There was a disconnect of about 10 years in the series around the main character, Farley, and his girlfriend, the meter maid whose name I can’t remember. About a year before he passed away, Frank tied up that loose end by having the meter maid’s daughter, Olive, who had remained unaged while “away,” step into a Transmogrifier borrowed from Calvin and Hobbes. Poof! She aged to her appropriate age, which was around 19. Frank even gave her a navel ring.
Should that not be “boink” rather than “poof”? Or was that the duplicator?
Rick, you said you’d be shutting off the PayPal monthly subscriptions by tomorrow. Personally, I don’t mind if you leave mine (under the name Wayne Brown) running while you’re taking a break. The month of May isn’t that far away, and you could consider the extra couple of months as partial “back pay” for all the strips I read before subscribing.
Yea, nobody asked me if I wanted my Paypal payment cut off.
I was fine with it continuing. I have had my money’s worth and more, and when I quit feeling that way, I would have shut off the faucet all by myself.
Likewise, my monthly fee is so cheap I don’t notice it and I’d be happy to keep supporting the artist behind this briliance, especially if it ensures you’re motivated to come back to it! That being said, it’s too complex for him to canvass every subscriber and check if they want to continue or not during the dry spells. Maybe a re-sub link we can race over and re-sub if we wish, knowing we will not be getting the daily strip.
My mornings will not be the same without Yehuda and Thistle and Joe and all. Thanks for a wonderful two years, rest, ride a lot and come back strong.
Great image, and keep doing what’s best for yourself, man.
How did his rear tire get ahead of his left foot?
Jesus tapdancing CHRIST, people. Get a life!
I’ve got a life. I fill it with wonderful things like Yehuda Moon, my beautiful Pashley bicycle, my cycle advocacy efforts, my dear wife and children and many other wonderful people and things.
Yehuda Moon is one of the things that goes into making a life. You are obviously reading the comic. Don’t you have a life?
Unlike those who look for nearly-always civil discussions to torch? My way, looking forward to this comic and missing it when it’s absent, is a lot more peaceful, calm, and infinitely right for me. Peace to you. Namaste’.
Dear everyone, I’ve been reading Yehuda Moon daily for over a year now. This comic has warmed my heart many times, and I think this would be an appropriate place to share some news. Last june I had a bad crash. I was out of the saddle for a long time with what I THOUGHT was a nasty wrist sprain. In November I learned it was actually broken and began to immobilize/treat it. Yesterday the docs told me it was healed and i could get back in the saddle. I just had my first real ride in about eight months and it was AMAZING! I just wanted to share with some people I knew would understand. Best of luck, life and love to you all. Ride on!
Oh, that first ride back, even after just a couple of days, and even on days when you don’t think you feel like it, as soon as you get out there…oh, bliss, oh, joy! I’m so very happy for you. I can’t imagine eight months without riding. Criminy.
After my heart-attack in Dec 2006, it was (probably)Feb/March before I could ride again.
Scary, as I still had to ‘find’ most of my long-term memory and short-term problems (still today!) meant I had to be quick after looking behind or I forgot what I saw!
Finding my way around was something between fun and terrifying, as if I took a wrong term I was genuinly lost and the road looked different looking the other way.
All the very best Guest – I hope your return to ‘normality’ will be serene and pleasurable.
PS – and have a wonderful vacation/holiday/sabbatical, Rick. Thanks for everything! Yehuda helped keep me going through a dark time, seriously. I’ll definitely be signing up when you return!
While I feel sad that there won’t be any new Yehuda comics with my morning tea for a while, I understand the need to take time off and recharge. So, I wish you all the best and I’m looking forward to the new strips in a few months! Cheers!
Adam
Tea in the mornings? A gentleman after my own heart. *swoon*
Hey, I need to flirt with someone, my comic strip bicycle boyfriend is going walkies…er…wheelies for a while.
Aaaaaah!
Have a good break Rick. I’m just going to start again at the beginning.
How about this for an alternative? I admit I just stated following the strip in the last six months. Maybe Rick can hit rewind and take us back to the beginning or random days during his hiatus. You can always do this on you own through the menu.
Got to work, cleaned up, changed from bike clothes to work clothes, make pot of coffee, boot computer, go to check Yehuda…………… Doh!
Have a refreshing vacation, Rick. We all miss the Kickstand and eagerly await it’s return.
Bad news! I’m going to be obliged to work at office!
Here is something to hold everyone over… Kickstand Classics is a Google Gadget with older Yehuda comics to help feed our addiction while Rick is on vacation. Get it here: http://www.google.com/ig/adde?moduleurl=hosting.gmodules.com/ig/gadgets/file/106082546612933678111/yehudamoonclassics.xml
You rock, Jordan! Thank you thank you thank you!
… thanks for brighten our day so far! i’m laready looking forward to may…
Day trip Pt1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyz5d3entBw&feature=player_embedded#
Quite wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
On one trip to England I bicycled from Salisbury to Stonehenge along the Avon. A beautiful ride on country roads, through thatched villages, past Old Sarum and, after cresting a final hill, to Stonehenge on Salisbury Plain. The road back ended with a pint and a hot bath at the Cough, a medieval guest house built around a central courtyard. Great memories.
Sorry. Forgot an H…It’s Chough, as in ravens, not Cough.
http://www.ukattraction.com/southern-england/alchemy-at-the-chough.htm
I prefer The Cough!
@3345, I have been cycling and walking in that exact area (although didn’t end at the Cough) and remember it as being quite beautiful and quiet….brought back some wonderful memories, thank-you.
And I have to admit, I really miss my morning Yehuda-and-Joe (and all the rest) fix….so I think Geezer has a good point! Have a great vacation, Rick and come back all refreshed….just, please, don’t forget to come back!
Thanks for the link.
I know most of the places on that trip, as I grew up in Coventry and cycled many of those roads myself. Often!
And in the follow-up:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGYngjxJP1I&NR=1
At 4:53 is a sign/junction that I saw on my way back after a ride from Coventry to Matlock Bath and home via Leicester.
About 75M in one day taking in some marvellous views etc.
Great stuff. Thanks again for the link!
This particular post is gettin g kinda long. Maybe Rick could just give us a fresh blank page every day so that the conversations would continue.
Wow… even Rick’s “i’m on vacation” strip is brilliant!
So simple, yet communicates so much.
Have a great break! We’ll miss Yahuda and look forward to his return in May. Thanks for doing this comic!
Have a great vacation, Rick… If you wanne drop by while wandering/cycling, just let us know!

Just messin’ with ya Kevin.
About 5 times as many as the number of miles put on the thing…
I’ve been away from my computer the last week (biking around the Netherlands on a trip combined with, and paid for by, work
). Anyway, I just saw this today and wanted to add my thanks to Rick and best wishes for a well deserved break. The Netherlands really is how KLove describes Toronto. Cars are 2nd class and everybody and their Grandmother is on a bike. Separate intercity routes for bikes which are designed right and signposted so you can actually find your way around Although I did get pretty lost riding though the airport. Ended end getting out of it by riding through a half mile long bicycle only tunnel. Wouldn’t have believedit if I weren’t there. Jay
By the way, trip was on a folder. Looks like a toy – rides good enough – tough going into the wind though. Worked out great.
Panel 1: Header March 7, 2030
Many small children.
One child: Grandma, Please tell us a story.
Panel 2: Older child: Please tell us about Winteride.

Go ride!
I’m grateful to all of you who are making up strips, please don’t stop, it’s not Rick, but it’s not nothing either! Maybe even Rick will use some of those ideas when he gets back.

Panel 2: Pedeling faster with every mile.
Panel 3: And as he neared the Doan Creek Bridge
PAnel 4: Kevlar Bead began to smile…
Panel 1: WA ha ha ha!
Panel 2: Ha ha ha!!
PAnel 3: WAH???
Panel 1: Thistle: They waited on the Doan Creek Bridge.
Panel 2: The bridge: Shadow figures in a mass.

Nicely done.
Thank you.
New! On Google Maps, get biking directions
In select US cities only.
But on my Google G1 mobile I get maps, Google Earth and directions!
Almost as useful as a Pashley?
This is a great strip I only recently discovered it and promptly read them all! I can’t wait to read more of the Kickstand’s tales. Hope Yehuda, Joe and Rick enjoy the vacation time.
Missing the strip… so in the meantime got the Moulton back from Paul of Villiers Velo with the drop bar conversion. Looks good!

>CLANG<
<whisper>Ouch! Who turned out all the lights?</whisper>
Hewwo? Anybody home?
HELLO?
*tiptoes out, tripping over the frame of an old, old Napoli(?), a Japanese city bike of the early-to-mid-70s bike I hope someone here will know about*
I got a flat today on my way to work. Normally, this is where Kevin Love would pop in to say that I should get Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires, because of the fact that in the little more than a year that he has been riding them very short distances, he has NEVER, EVER gotten a flat. Well, a few months ago I got a flat on my way to work and decided to try out Schwalbe Marathon Pluses, which cost 75$ a pop. So, my 2 month old Schwalbe Marathon Plus tire has gotten a flat (it was from a piece of metal, which is exactly what the tires are supposed to prevent), something which has occured for the first time far sooner than with any other tire I have bought (generally, Continental Gatorskins or GP4000s).
It was a bummer, but kind of awesome because now I can refute Kevin Love should he ever make the ridiculous claim that his precious tires can’t ever get flats, never ever. I just wish that Yehuda was still happening, so that he might actually see this post.
That’s funny. I ride the 26″ version of the marathon plus tires for my commuter. 20 months, 5500 miles and no flats. Though my riding surface isn’t bad at all. I was averaging a flat every 3 months or so before.
I also picked mine up for $35/each, so it was easier for me to make the leap of faith at them. And boy are they heavy! in the 26×1.75 size I got them at 1000 grams each!
i guess you don’t ride in toronto, where the streets are paved with broken glass and other bits of debris, and are littered with potholes.
also, where are marathon plus tires 35$? regular marathons are 50 (in canada, where we get screwed over on everything, even when the dollar is at par)
Here’s where I got mines, the 26ers are now $42 and the 700c are $45.
http://www.biketiresdirect.com/pscmar/schwalbe_marathon_plus_700c/pp.htm
A $7 rise in two years isn’t too bad.
Yeah, my roads are much better than what yours sounds like. Most of my previous flats were either from goathead thorns or sharp pebbles eventually pushing their way through the tire casing, the Marathon Pluses have remedied that for me so far.
How does £22 compare?

We shall wear our woolen vestments astride our steel steeds and gratefully await the prophesied return of the bearded one.
The crusade continues!
I know the whole bicycle advocacy thing gets beaten to death here, but you guys really need to drop by this site
http://let-him-ride.com/
and send money for a real lawyer to represent Chip Seal, and someone needs to trell the ACLU about this, I thought putting someone in jail for a traffic ticket that hasn’t gone to court yet was against the law
Thanks for the link to this story. I sent a donation to ChipSeal’s defense fund and hope others will do the same.
But first I leave you with this:
Frame 1: Yehuda at the computer, Thistle walking in.
Thistle: Yehuda! What are you doing? It’s a beautiful day out! This is the warmest March I can remember!
Yehuda: Oh, my morning bike comic is on holiday. I’m just waiting for it to come back. I can’t start the day right without it.
Frame 2: Yehuda at the computer, his stomach a bit bigger. Outside the shop window, people on bikes riding by.
Frame 3: Yehuda at the computer, his stomach even bigger. Outside the shop window, more bikes and a woman in a sundress.
Frame 4: Yehuda at the computer with a pot belly. His pants button pops off and pings off the screen.
Yehuda: I think it’s time for a new spring wardrobe.
I wouldn’t presume to criticize how the artist works, but I could give up the weekend strips if it means getting Yehuda back sooner!

As you may know the course uses ordinary streets like Monaco.
It was fun seeing the cycle lanes being ignored by the F1 drivers!
Taking daylight savings time into account, isn’t this May 1st?
Just found a Pashley Kevin would love!

Royal Mail is scrapping most of their fleet of Pashleys as they are too dangerous!
Bike accidents are more frequent than ‘handling’ accidents it seems.
(Parcels dropped on toe etc?)
Sad sight!

Pashley dead now. Don’t cry Kevin.
I just parted company with Sven and Doro, a cycling couple from Germany who spent the night; they found me via warmshowers.org. They’ve been traveling through South America for 20 months, and are now on their way to Alaska. This has been the first time I’ve spent time in the company of “real” cyclists…those doing what I dream of doing; just riding and riding and riding. When they do stop, they often do a lot of volunteer work and are raising money for a hospital for the poor. What a wonderful couple, and what a great time I had hosting them. I recommend warmshowers (and couchsurfing.org, too). I fed them dinner and breakfast; their company and stories were WELL worth the little bit extra I spent on groceries. I wish them well on their trip. Gute Reise, Sven und Doro!
Okay. We made it thru March…
Happy Easter!
What would be the best ‘Easter Egg’ on this comic?
Kevin – ‘Pashley related photos’? (Small Pashley icon somewhere…)
Maybe Yehuda could dress up like the Easter Bunny and deliver eggs to all the children on the street with Thistle and Fizz and Thursday (from Shuck) as his helpers!
Yehuda could be riding Thistle’s Bakfiets.

Panel 2: UPS truck pulls up out front.
Panel 3: UPS driver carrying in huge box.
Panel 4: Yehuda grinning and Joe and box.
Joe – Now what?

Is it May yet?
Only 26 more days until May!
*said in her very best Joey voice*
Yehuda…come back, Yehuda!
Some of you will understand this reference; some of you will not.
I always wanted to smack that blasted kid… him and his damn whiney voice, made my teeth itch.
Another day closer to the return of the “chosen one”!
Only 22 1/2 days until May
It’s been a long, long winter , and cold cold spring without you, Yehuda!
I miss you, Yehuda!
Only 16 more shopping days until May.
The days just haven’t been the same… weather turning for the better or not
Can you imagine how long Yehuda’s beard will be when he returns? Or how hairy Joe’s legs will be?
I’ve been wondering if he’s gonna come back with a girlfriend. ‘Tis spring, and a young man’s fancy turns to…well, yeah, bicycles, too…
I can’t even tickle an old man’s fancy…lol.
I’m 60, is that old enough?
Darn, you’ve got me beat. I’m only 55. Guess I’m too young.
55 and 60, eh? Got pics?
(Of your bikes, of course.)
Any chance of a sneak preview, Rick?
quivering, nervous wreck appears at door of Kickstand..
*twich*
*tic*
Is it May yet?
*twitch*
*tic*
*shuffles off stage left*
Hooray!!!
Apparently the return will not begin with an image of the Annual Kickstand Maypole Dance or the image of the KIckstand Crew with tanks and missles marching thru Shaker Square.
But both images would make a great Tee-shirt
Maybe both images on the SAME tee-shirt.
Yes! Great news.
*sigh* Page 3?!?
I miss Yehuda.
*sigh*
Yahoo-da!
*dishevelled bag lady with bicycle in need of much TLC, with her entire life contents on it contained in worn and battered ancient Carradice panniers on bike*
“Is it May the second yet?”
*tic*
*twitch*
*drool*
*dribble*
Taps hopefully on door of Kickstand.
*small tear appears in corner of rheumy eye*
*wanders off pushing bicycle*
*Trips as she wanders into the distance*
The pathetic sound of weeping, wailing, rending of garments, gnashing of dentures can be heard off in the distance..
heck, you all are lucky…I’m gonna be on vacation, far away from any computers, the first week that Yehuda comes back…I won’t be able to get my fix until the 9th!!!argh! The only thing that is a comfort and prevents the alteration of plans is that this is a cycling vacation. Can’t wait to see Yehuda, Joe, Thistle and Fizz…and the rest of the cast. Hope your LOA has been a refreshment to your soul, Rick, we can’t wait to see your work again!!
get a mobile internet stick (usb cell modem) and a net book, then you won’t have to go without! well, unless you’re cycling in remote parts with no service. ~twitch~
Happy Earth Day, everyone!
Only 10 more shopping days ’til Yehuda!
Less than a week!
