My first recollection of the coffee/bike connection comes from reading about Italian racers in the “good old days” who would break up their training rides with a stop at a cafe, or who would treat coffee as a sort of energy drink. Nothing like a little coffee to wash down those ham and jelly sandwiches and give that kick you need to finish strong.

The coffee connection is quite strong in Sweden as well, with former cyclists having their own brands.

That was the only time I ever heard any matriarchal member of my family use such vulgarisms, and boy did she relish singing it under her breath to a twelve year old! You could see in her twinkly eyes, she was reliving learning it for herself at that age!
Being a romantic, I like the original too, and would have said yes. As it was, My husband and I dated carless and penniless, riding for miles to the lake with a kite and fixings for a picnic lunch.
Maybe a tandem for Christmas is in order this year!………

My grandmother used to sing:

There is a version, “for I’ll be damned/if I’ll get crammed. . .”, but my grandmother was too much of a lady to say ‘damned.’

As an engineer/bike mechanic they might tend to turn out a bit stiff, albeit vertically compliant.

Although he’s probably no whiz at family entrees I’ll bet Yehuda is actually the better dessert chef, although I might advise to approach the brownies with due caution.

Yehuda uses proceeds from his house-sitting to fund the shop?

As the father of two boys under 12, I don’t see a bike shop renting itself out for kiddee birthyday parties. Quoting someone: “How easily things get broken…”

If this is after the shop closes, Thistle has a family to go home to. Unlike Yehuda and presumably Joe as well as far as we’ve seen.
