But for the ‘bars it resembles a ‘Raleigh Chopper’?

I see some budding bicycle advocates stirring up trouble soon.

Have we seen any bicycle trailers yet? Maybe they can borrow a trailer from Yehuda to tow bicycle racks to the school.

It’s only a matter of time now until we see an xtracycle or other longtail in the shop… maybe a recumbent longtail, like the Rans Hammer Truck (seen at http://tinyurl.com/3nmj7v ) even?

So.. does Joe or Yehuda work on the ‘bents when they come in? I know several mechanics who won’t even touch them (mostly because of the fear of the unknown factor).

Also, what the hell is the guy with the glasses and green shirt standing next to joe holding? My guess is cycle computer…

I used to be a shop service manager. Any employee who made derogatory comments about a recumbent got slammed with derogatory comments about his/her favorite bike. ALL bikes have cool factor.

Rick, Thank you for introducing the ex-”roadies” (and perhaps some regular readers) to recumbents.

While I am an advocate of recumbents in general, trikes in particular and Longtails FOREVER. Also classic bikes (is that too much??) EVERY bicycle is good! i love them ALL! Nothing in the world cooler than a nice bike! I even admire Trackies! even if I would probably squash one by sitting on it and if I COULD ride it it would throw me off within moments and hurl me into the bushes! (hopefully I could avoid the secret service men in my trajectory!, sorry, bad pun, not a political joke, it sort of just happened!)
Can’t WAIT to see what Rick comes up with NEXT!

By the way, while Joe seems to disparage “advocacy” i think that he KNOWS that the more advocacy, the more people are aware of bikes, and the more people will BUY bikes!

I never had the money to buy a recumbent… nor did I have the space to store it. [:(]

Dang! Yehuda Moon used to be my favorite comic.

Now it’s my Double Extra Favorite! I do believe that is a RANS V-Rex sitting in the corner of the second panel.

Yes!!! thats a Rans Vrex!!! so freaking awesome! My bicycle was posted in this comic, its official now. This comic made my day. I have been commuting on a Rans for over a year now. I ride a DF in the snow for the stability.

short wheelbase, tubular space frame, wide bars, all the earmarks of a Lightning P-38 performance recumbent. The seat does look a bit like a Rans though. Hmmm, how long before a velomobile shows up in the shop?

Are you sure that isn’t a Rocket? As to cost…My FIRST recumbent was an ORIGINAL Tour Easy. Made from two bike frames and using the ORIGINAL plans from Gardner Martin (sorry you are gone Martin! miss you sir!) the TE is STILL a decent and viable ride. I made my first one with salvaged bikes and parts, total cost, about $35, most of which was the Schwinn Butterfly bars! ($18 at that time!) I still HAVE that bike and it is in my garage. I plan to revive it this winter.

Yes! A recumbent in the Kickstand! And I agree it looks like a Rans.

Now for a bet, would Yehuda like recumbents? Or better Joe?

    ‘Bents are cool.

Unless you’re trying to get somewhere multi-modally. Run up and down stairs, board the train, throw it on a bus’ front rack, and ride it up and down some serious hills and you’ll see what I mean.

Longtails and bakfiets have the same drawback. Safety bicycles (a regular double triangle bike) have standardized the multi-modal commuters’ world.

The ‘bent and cargo bicycles are welcome additions and much needed for the absolutely car-free cyclist who wants to get bigger projects done.

Woohoo! I ride a Rans Tailwind recumbent (similar to the one shown), also a Ciocc lugged steel road bike from the 80′s, and a Cannondale aluminum hybrid (got it for my son) that I use for tackling things where I need serious low gearing (did Mt. Rainier a couple of weeks ago, heading out in a bit to try to conquer a local 25% grade road).

Thanks for finally showing a bent Rick! Instantly made it to bentridersonline.com, we love your strip over there.

I was always of the opinion that it doesn’t matter what someone rides so long as they ride.

I agree, a bike is a bike, is a bike. Love them all. I ride a Barcroft Virginia among other bikes, but the Barcroft is my main ride and it’s Yehuda’s bent.

Who’s Yehuda Moon?

Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.

The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.
