It's funny because when I race on my steel ride, it's not the bike that keeps me from placing higher. It's always a tactical mistake, or the fact that I wasn't fast enough. Same with 7 vs. 8 vs. 9 vs. 10, and now vs. 11 speed drivetrains. Racing is racing, and there's so much more to it than fitness and equipment weight. To say that you couldn't race on a steel bike is a cop out. It’s funny how many people buy into the hype that steel can’t be good for racing anymore.
