Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.
The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.

lugged steel is is the only way to go!
They’re right: http://bicycledesign.blogspot.com/2008/08/old-or-new.html
steel is real!
that reminds me….I am a balloon artist. I wonder if I could do Yehuda in balloons….and Joe, and Thistle and Fizz too. Might even try Fred!If so, I will provide photos somewhere. Maybe my website, “Papaballoon.biz”
“…steel…”
Dogma is dull.
Lugged steel with 650B tires. Those guys are going to ride a long ways.
So the Kickstand has a Rapid Red Line (carbon), a Blue Line (steel) and the Van Sweringen (stone).
Great strip for the day… but I wonder, who’s getting those sales? Lugged steel in the peleton? In this day and age? Makes sense for someone not competing that wants a frame that is comfortable AND will last decades. Love my Ciocc, but know that a modern carbon frame (along with some of the other modern things like getting rid of my downtube shifters) would shave critical seconds off my climbing if I was racing. I’m carrying about 7 lbs more up those hills than the guy with a 15 lb bike.
Maybe they are there for winter bikes and just don’t know it yet. The new mechanic might convince them that fenders allow more outdoor training
Can she convince them that a box bike is the way to go? I doubt it…
Dogma is dull.
+1 I have both. I haven’t ridden steel in a year
The “peloton” look like they’re wearing classic wool jerseys. Perhaps they’re switching from racing to randonneuring. Or maybe the new Rapid Blue Line is the Kickstand’s Cyclocross bike.
Steel is real.
But Ti will fly.
Steel is the new black.
Love me some lugged steel. 90 Paramount OS FTW!
will neg says “i haven’t ridden steel in a year.”
i’m guessing:
1-you don’t ride enough;
2-you aren’t having enough fun when you DO ride.
get on your steel bike and enjoy the ride.
I think poor Yehuda has lost the bet. Which car do you think he will bring to the kickstand?
@Alex:
His blue car!
dun – dun – dunnn!!!!
The big twist will be that Yehuda has multiple personality disorder and that Joe, Yehuda, Thistle, Fred, and the blue-car driving person are all personalities living within Yehuda. There is no kickstand cyclery, just an empty apartment with one crazy dude inside, turning a single light bulb on and off.

But my name’s not “Yehuda”!
@John: May I please speak with Yehuda?
They are mearly gotta have it buyers, you know the ones. It’s in the new Bicycling Mag so I gotta have one now.
It’s funny how many people buy into the hype that steel can’t be good for racing anymore. It’s funny because when I race on my steel ride, it’s not the bike that keeps me from placing higher. It’s always a tactical mistake, or the fact that I wasn’t fast enough. Same with 7 vs. 8 vs. 9 vs. 10, and now vs. 11 speed drivetrains. Racing is racing, and there’s so much more to it than fitness and equipment weight. To say that you couldn’t race on a steel bike is a cop out.

@Scott:
He’s not in right now. Wanna leave a message?
I have some of each – steel, aluminium, and carbon. When I can build a 15lb steel road bike they’ll all be steel (958 was sure a disappointment).
