They get offended when you turn down the booze because they know they are also abusing it and you show them the good example they don't want to follow. By refusing to join the vice, you are showing them up and shaming them. Not your fault, though. It's the way addicts are. Addicts stick to other addicts, people who'll support their addiction, and those who are not involved are unwelcome generally and expected to play along if they want to hang out.
