Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.
The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.

Did I miss something: since when does Joe ride in the snow?
maybe he learned to shut up and ride.
Like
Just look at his face!
Maybe Yehuda shamed him into riding?
You just have to admire Rick’s talent – It LOOKS cold and wintry in those frames…
He didn’t expect the snow, I guess, and was caught in it. Otherwise, I’m sure he’d spin on his indoor trainer and drive to the shop. He’s a roadie after all
Also – Note the lack of traffic. The motors will be queueing-up soon and there will be solid packs of parked cars covering the asphalt
Many of them stuck together?
can a native speaker explain y’s comment please?
“Salmoning” in the bike world, is when a bike rider goes against traffic, ie riding the wrong way in a bike lane, on the wrong side of the road, etc. Disconcerting, especially if they do it without lights, all in black, in the dark. Name comes from salmon swimming upstream to spawn. HTH.
All in black with no lights I would call a Ninja Salmon.
thanks. makes sense.
As an Australian, I can’t really comprehend riding in snow / ice. To all of those who do, I dips me cycling cap in respect.
As a Canadian who just shoveled a 15cm dump of snow before setting off for work, I envy your lack of comprehension!
Heh, I think my ancestors did a little more research than yours
No queue of cars blaming the cyclists for slowing them down?
Saw a great news story this weekend, there was a 200km long traffic jam in Russia due to bad weather. I’d link it but last time I linked a story it didn’t appear on the page. :-/ So p[eople will have to Google ’200km traffic jam Russia’.
I compose in ‘Word’ and use the ‘Insert/Hyperlink’ method then copy and paste it here. Maybe I remember just copying the url but cannot remember?

I just used both methods and they both seem to work…
The East side of Cleveland has mostly grey days from November to March and a bit of snow flurry activity is normal, which does not mean the roads are snow covered. It is, however an ominous sign of worse things to come. Then we’ll see if Joe is out there.
Can we say “Lake Effect Snow”? (A lot of my family was centered around Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church in Lakewood, and I lived for eight years in Erie, PA). I have memories of cycling in that stuff.
“salmoning” isn’t really an issue if you are blessed with living in a city that has zero bike infrastructure, okc has some streets in about a square mile downtown that are marked bike routes and have sharrows painted on them, other than those area’s, seeing another commuter would be like stumbling on a lake in the desert
While it’s snowing in Cleveland, in KC I rode to work this morning with just a short-sleeve jersey and shorts. Temperature of 57° at 6:00 AM is a bit unusual for December 3rd but I’ll enjoy it while I can.
It was 25° last Tuesday morning which is more normal. I’ll take the warm temps while they last.
Riding around in SS jersey and shorts in December? I’m loving this crazy weather!
The central midwest’s warming trend is bizarre. Is it April the third and not December? I rode in this morning with just a single layer. (wool) but still…
What happened to Joe’s new bike. Haven’t seen it since SS took it.
We had a snowstorm last night. Whenever it really snows deep on a sunday I’m stricken with the urge to go to the movies downtown with my bike. I rode there, but walked back, LOL. The snow was so deep even on cleared sidewalks out front of shops, on the windy side, I just couldn’t push through it! I wound up walking down the car tracks in the road just to make my way home. 15mins out, 60mins back. I’m so proud of me. Life of Pi was an AWESOME movie too. Well worth the effort to see it in AVX3d.
I saw Life of Pi on Sunday too! Absolutely fabulous movie and the best use of 3D I’ve ever seen….not in your face yet really enhanced the immersive feeling.
No snow here in Indy; possible record breaking 70 degrees F today. Had to be canny in my layering today. Looking a bit more grim later in the week though.
Hoping for a little snow and ice this year so I can use my studded tires more than once. Hard to justify the cost of a pair of nice Nokians like the ones I got last year for just one day of use per year.
We had a cool front hit here also. Almost got down to 68… Brrrrrrrr, better get out the thermals….
I just wish we HAD a salmon run here. There’s not much in the way of bike commuters here in Fort Wayne.
