More stop signs should be converted to yield signs and then they'd be obeyed more. When there are too many unnecessary stop signs they become meaningless.
(And I include motorists in this too who find them meaningless.)

Talking about the 'Idaho Stop' - tonight I was driving my Wife to a rehearsal for an Xmas performance she is giving. As I approached a junction which has 2 lanes, one with standing traffic obeying the 'Red light=no turn' signal and my lane that had a green light for straight on.
So I carefully moved alongside the stopped vehicles at about 20mph, when a cyclist suddenly appeared from in front of the queue, trying to cross! I slapped on my brakes, glad for ABS in the torrential rain, and steered away. The cyclist did the same - he stopped and swung his front wheel around to a full right lock to clear the wheel from my lane. Quick thinking, I missed him!
As I proceeded onwards, In my mirror, I saw him gesticulating. Maybe he thought the filter lane red light was for both lanes?
Just a note of caution to those too impatient to stop and wait for a clear path etc...

I don't know — maybe it's the same sort of cock-eyed optimism that makes me think people in cars will properly perform a 'right-turn-on-red' or observe the speed limits.

the average cyclist barely stops at red lights (*)
Why would anyone think that 'stop signs' would make them *eh* stop ?

*) however given that traffic lights appear to be set for cars first and cyclists a distant second I can't blame them ...

Why would that be famous last words. Nothing about Idaho stop laws make cyclists any more likely to have an accident. A reasonable argument could be made that Idaho stop laws make accidents involving cyclists at intersections less likely.
