Yehuda Moon works at the Kickstand Cyclery, lives on his bicycle and dreams of a day when everyone does likewise.
The comic strip is about two guys who run a bike shop and the challenges they face in the store and on the road. Yehuda‘s the utilitarian advocate; Joe‘s the go-fast pragmatist. Thistle Gin, a wrench and biking mom, rounds them out.

I love the new website!
Yup, looks good!
Love this episode too.
Wow! It looks good so far! Glad we’re keeping the old comments!
‘Logged in as .’ ???
No avatar?
About the new website – I agree with keeping access to 4 years of comments but as for the strip being entirely free?
Well I believe strongly that a worksman deserves his wages. So as long as Rick and Co get some income to at least cover the cost of making the strip available, any solution is okay. If advertising gives that income, nothing is really lost by making the strip free. Any cost that gets in the way of strip production will not benefit anybody in the long run.
For what it is worth, that is my opinion. There will always be those that just want a ‘free lunch’ but the cost of subscription is not enough to cause anybody distress is it?
Just added the avatar functionality – click ‘profile’ in the lower right of the page footer after you log in to add a pic.
Testing: Let’s see… do you see me?
I wasn’t planning to drop my subscription, just because the strip is available for free. You don’t have to either.
I love the little bike-love strips like this.
On the site:
That header is a bit fat, considering that it stays put when scrolling. It’s quite a waste of screen real estate (though it does appear to get out of the way when my phone is vertical).
The design looks great though. Icons, art, and layout are all top notch!
Hopefully it lets our log-in cookies stay put like the old site has for a while. The original pay site was maddening when you use two computers, an iPad, and and iPhone all with multiple browsers and RSS readers. I spent more time entering login details than reading the comic before you fixed it. Make sure you set this one like the last one and prevent needing to constantly enter the user/password just to read/use the site.
We’ll make sure the mobile version of the site is designed for smaller screens – right now we’re just displaying the full site.
WordPress saves your log in information (if you choose to let it) and won’t log you out unless lots of time pass between visits.
All the comics will be available to all, so you won’t have to ever log in to read comics, but will (unless already logged in) if you want to leave a comment.
That header is a bit fat, considering that it stays put when scrolling.
Agree. Takes up too much space on netbook screen. Apart from that, though, great new site!
Everything takes too much space on a netbook
I’ll be working on a responsive design over the next week so tablets and phones have a better experience.
I didn’t vote on this as I really wasn’t sure. I like the fact I’ll be able to send links to strips to non-subscribing friends. But I really want this strip to continue, so hope that Rick has the finance side sorted out.
@Tencon – you can change your “logged in as” name and put up an avatar by editing your profile.
Thanks Longrider – done it.
Does WordPress offer an ability to hide comments? I don’t mind reading the ramblings on my PC but would rather not waste my mobile data allowance when reading the strip on my mobile phone.
Site looks good to me.
Love the new site, but I agree with previous comments that the header is a bit too large – takes up a lot of screen space.
However, well done, gang…..
Are you still gonna keep the recumbent jokes in this brave new layout?
Is there not an option to have comments sent by email? I had hoped that the new comment system would have a global option to have all comments emailed every day so that I wouldn’t have to turn on the email option for each day individually like I did under the old system. But so far I haven’t been able to find a way to have comments emailed at all. If that isn’t available then I’ll have little or no interest in following the comments.
Curious – Can you not read the comments when you scan the strip?
(A little bit tongue in cheek here as I can imagine occasions that having the whole of a day’s comments sent to me would be useful!
Yes, but it gets a little tedious having to come back and scan through all the comments over and over and over and over and over… etc. all day long just to make certain I don’t miss a new one. It’s much nicer to come in once a day and read all the comments that are already here, then have the new ones show up one at a time in my mailbox as they are posted.
Okay, thanks for the help folks. Fixed.
One more thing – What happened to the ‘like’ function?
It was a way we had to pass on a quick comment without typing, etc.
Looks good.
Looks great! And a great strip to start it off with!!
First day back to work after a nice week with the in-laws in NoCal. Sadly, it was sans bike, so I was a bit off kilter, until this morning’s lovely bike commute. Set me straight!
I didn’t find time to read any Yehuda while away, so I’m just looking at the new site for the first time this morning. I just want to say kudos to Rick and Greg; it’s quite sharp!
As in the previous web design is there a way to hide/turn off the comments?
I tried to share today’s comic with my cycling team today. The link worked fine but in addition to a preview, it posted “3381 Thanks! An error occurred!” I deleted it and shared from your FB post and it worked fine….but different. Thanks for the new website!
Thanks for the feedback – anyone else experiencing this?
That wheel effect – great shirt strip. And not just because I need the extra reminder.
new page looks good! Thanks.
This is a nice improvement.
Hrm, I really don’t have time to set up another website so no avatar and such for me and if my membership account doesn’t translate, I may cease commenting. No loss, there’s a lot of voices in the world.
I think, though, I should tell what’s happening to my browser here. That giant banner, just the drawn part with the name and the character, floats about halfway down the screen occluding all the content unless I shrink the site with chrome’s “ctrl -” command, which then makes the stuff so small I have to squint. Can we tame that banner so it scrolls away up the page please? I have just a laptop with a 14″ screen and there just isn’t enough real estate to keep all your ads and banners present and still enjoy the content, which I’ll now attempt to do for today.
I’ll be working on a responsive design over the next week so tablets and phones have a better experience.
About the only thing I’ll squawk about is having to scroll down to the bottom to log on. The top is “fat”, but it doesn’t bother me.
Congratulations!
I also like that the system automatically re-sized avatars for you so you don’t have to!
You should tweet that the page is available
Done!
And my commute goes through the forest like that, too! I over-slept this morning and had to drive. I’ll ride tomorrow.
Finally! Now to get logged in all the way.
Pro – rss is back to working. Rss reader now tells me when a new strip is ready. Also I can now send link to a friend in hopes of spreading YNKC laughs.
Con – I agree with others, Top Banner is way too big. On my netbook it uses up way to much space. If possible provide ability to select size??
Question – I intend to continue my support of the site, will we receive an email when our membership runs out?
Mark,
Thanks for your support! The subscriptions are evergreen, meaning they go until you stop them.
I’ll customize the header so it changes size and position based on what size screen and type of device each reader has. Probably next week -
I’m getting the Apache default page if I try to enter with www. at the beginning of the URL. Without it, I can access the website just fine.
I think that’s a DNS propogation issue, but I’ll keep tabs on it.
Just now on the new page. Except for re-loading my secret identity, it seems good. Not sure how I feel about the new header – maybe it will grow on me, like a fungus…
mike test 123, mike test 123… is this thing on?
Lovin’ the search function! Nice work guys!
Love the new layout. And yay for keeping our comments.
New site looks nice, **LOVE** this strip! You should get it on a mug or t-shirt, or both!
Can I get this in poster size? It says it so well. I’m often out running the weight of the world on a bike ride!
